Hal Turner Update

From USAToday: No bail for blogger accused of threatening judges
U.S. Magistrate Michael Shipp said Hal Turner, 47, of North Bergen, N.J., is a danger to the community and ordered him transferred to Illinois, the AP writes. The FBI arrested Turner, a former U.S. Marine, yesterday at his home.

At today's court hearing, federal prosecutors revealed that agents found 200 rounds of ammunition, including 150 hollow-point bullets, which are especially lethal and illegal, The Jersey Journal reports.

Jesus, Hal. People actually wondered why the police decided to trick him into coming to the station, rather than going after him? This would be why.

As of right now Hal Turner's Blogspot account is locked, pending review, and more than likely will end up getting the axe. Bye Hal, enjoy prison.

From today's Journal-Gazette letters:
Zealots’ smokescreen disguises terrorism

Early in my pastoral career, I discovered that the easiest place for the antichrist to operate is in Christian disguise. So it is with the zealots of the anti-abortion movement, most recently epitomized by Scott Roeder in the heinous murder of Dr. George Tiller.

While groups like Operation Rescue are trying to convince us that Roeder acted alone, there is ample evidence that he moved with the open encouragement of militant anti-abortion groups and incendiary voices like Bill O’Reilly, Alan Keyes, James Dobson, Randall Terry, Mark Crutcher, Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh.

Most of the above have one thing in common: They employ Christian language to justify the holiness of their cause and the righteousness of their deeds. To hear them talk, they are driven by a godly desire to protect the unborn – even to the extent of sanctifying blatant acts of violence.

With zealots like Roeder and their vociferous cheerleaders, I suspect that “the sanctity of life” is mostly a smokescreen. It provides a convenient springboard for encouraging and committing hate-filled acts of oppression, not only toward abortion-rights advocates but also to all manner of convenient scapegoats (women, Jews, Muslims, intellectuals, homosexuals and so-called “illegals”).

Roeder and his compatriots have shamed our nation by compromising the very moral code they claim to uphold. Until ordinary citizens are willing to stand up to these terrorists, the antichrist will continue to enjoy a field day in America.

On Letterman

Wingnuts are still pissed off that Letterman exposed McLame's lie. This is their revenge.

And they will fail.

Remember: When Imus called an entire women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos", it was censorship to suggest he be punished. When Letterman makes a stupid joke about a public figure, it's not censorship at all to suggest he be fired. This is the way of wingnuttery.

Randall Terry: Avowed Terrorist

Terry Says Obama Makes Attacks Inevitable; Also Serves Beer, Wings | TPMDC
In response to a follow up question from The Washington Independent's Dave Weigel about the correlation between violent right wing extremism and Democratic administrations, Terry recalled a quote, which he believed to have originated with either Robert or John F. Kennedy: "When you make peaceful protest impossible, you make violent protest inevitable," adding, "I can promise you this--there is visceral contempt for this administration," in the pro-life community.
There you have it. The terrorist Randall Terry is saying that there will be more attacks, more deaths, more and more until his goals are met.

HE IS A TERRORIST. THIS IS THE DICTIONARY DEFINITION OF TERRORISM.

RANDALL TERRY, I HEREBY STRIP YOU OF YOUR RIGHTS AS A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES, AND PLACE A WARRANT UPON YOUR HEAD. YOU WILL SURRENDER PEACEFULLY.

Ready Aim Capitulate

Given that everyone these days seems to want to destroy themselves, I think it's prudent to stand back and let it happen. Sure, it'll be the last 8 years all over again, but who cares - at least we're going to get that evil Obama back for not acting on all our little pet projects, right?

Enjoy the coming Republican majority and the sequel to the worst eight years of our lives.

ATTN: Glenn Beck

The election is over. Nobody except you and your hate-slinging ilk care about ACORN or Wright.

Also, do shut up. Now. Before I decide that the Feds would like to hear some of your statements.

More to spread around.

Again.

So let me see if I've got this straight.

A right-wing, paranoid hypothesist, birther, anti-Federal Reserve, anti-Semitic, neo-Nazi nutjob opens fire in the Holocaust Museum.
A week before, a hate-soaked Operation Rescue member shoots a doctor in the man's own church.
Another paranoid, hate-addled lunatic opens fire on cops because he's been told by the right that Obama will take his guns away.
Another opens fire in a church because he wants to kill liberals.
Multiple assassination plots, including at least one by skinhead Nazis, against the President have been foiled.

And the DHS report saying the right is unhinged and violent is wrong and evil.

Bull.
Fucking.
Shit.

How much more will have to happen before we finally wake up to the fact that current conservatism, right-wingerism, Republicanism, is a disease, a disorder, a blight?

I know I'll be criticized for this. I know someone will tell me I'm "just like them". No. I have the facts on my side. If you want to capitulate, if you want to surrender, then be my guest. You can be a traitor if you'd like.

Me? I'm sick of rolling over.

Arrested on charges of inciting violence and criminal harassment.

Shit. Well, surely he couldn't have said something that bad.

Right-Wing Mailbag, "Hate Is the Only Thing We Have" Edition

Letters | The Journal Gazette, Fort Wayne, Ind.
Government awards billions to failing banks, blames them for the economy, then takes them over. Government demands change from private companies, and when they fail to live up to expectations, government takes over them, too. As a result, hundreds of thousands are losing their jobs.

The killing of the unborn is redefined as decent, and those who would protect the innocents are labeled as radicals.

Former officials who acted to protect the country are now being hunted down and prosecuted as war criminals while those that sought to destroy the country are awarded rights, safety and civility.

Government authorizes the spending of trillions of dollars that does little to stimulate the economy while the citizenry is told to give back and cut back.

In my company, employees who perform like this would be fired. Our company could not survive with such behavior and results. But I’m not describing my company or yours.

Welcome to America! You get what you voted for.

JIM JOHNSON Fort Wayne
Mr. Johnson, I'm going to be blunt: Shut the fuck up. Shut your tantrum-throwing whine-hole and sit down. Your desperation is showing.

Your kind has, in the past months, ramped up the violent, hateful rhetoric they spew, and you dare not denounce it for fear that you might not have time to denounce people like me. You show yourself to be an ally to the criminals of the past administration, an ally to the ignorant masses who don't undersdtand the economy, and an ally to the destruction of this country by your own kind.

But most of all, I'd like to remind you that your kind took away a brave man, a man working to protect women from the creeping control your kind wish to impose, only a couple days ago, by driving someone to murder through the endless dehumanization of your "enemies" and the eliminationist garbage you and your ilk spew. Then you throw a tantrum because your kind are rightly seen as "radicals". The truth hurts. You are a criminal, no better than the common rabble you claim people like me to be.

You will shut up, Mr. Johnson, because you have no more right to speak. You have given that up by declaring yourself the enemy of this country, and the enemy of humanity. You will shut up, and you will do it now.

And In the End...

...all the anti-choice, anti-woman right has done, is set us back a single step. They have gained no ground, and have brought themselves TWO steps closer to being identified as the amoral domestic terrorists that they are.

Nebraska physician vows to keep Tiller clinic OPEN.

THEY HAVE GAINED NOTHING.

It's heartbreaking that Dr. Tiller had to lose his life in such a manner, and that his family, friends, and patients had to have such a dedicated and caring man wrenched so brutally from their lives. But his loss was NOT THEIR gain.

Nor has it set back those of us who value a woman's sovereignty, who value her RIGHT to choose when, and how often, she reproduces - or to choose NOT to reproduce at all. It has not set back those of us who view women as MORE than simply walking wombs, ready to churn out the next generation of Bible-thumping cannon fodder. It has not stopped us, and can only slow us down but for a moment. In the grand scheme of things, this... is but a temporary stumble, NOT a total knockout, and no reason to lose hope or give up.

As long as there are people like Dr. Tiller, who value the lives and rights of women, his death will not be in vain. But, for the anti-choice movement, as long as they are represented by, and supportive OF, domestic terrorists like Dr. Tiller's assassin... it will simply lead to a harder backlash against them in the end.

And, oh, what a sweet end that will be.

Words Have Consequences

War.

The anti-choice right has declared war on us.

They speak of elimination of our kind. They call us "evil", "un-American", "immoral", and yet they continue to prech our destruction and incite violence. Their friends in the media look the other way, covering for their crimes by calling their conspirators "lone nuts".

I am tired of it.

If it's war they want, they'll have it.

But we won't go to the streets. We won't kill. No, we'll do the right thing: We'll have them treated as they wanted us treated over these past 8 years. We'll lock them up, try them, convict them, and send them away for their crimes.

They are terrorists. We will not give in, we will not negotiate, we will not be afraid.

This is a one-sided war, one that we will not lose. We may suffer setbacks. We may lose our own to their hate and violence, but we will win.

Daniels: Safety Last

From the Richmond Palladium-Item (with props to Thomas): Daniels: Cost of I-69 extension can be cut
A new $3.1 billion price tag for the extension of Interstate 69 between Indianapolis and Evansville can be reduced by ignoring some federal rules, Gov. Mitch Daniels said.

Speaking Monday to a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana in Evansville, Daniels said the Indiana Department of Transportation estimate released last week could be trimmed by bypassing some federal highway construction standards.

"Throw away the rule book to the extent the feds will let you do it," Daniels said he told INDOT officials.
Wait... what now? Could you run that last one by me again?
"Throw away the rule book to the extent the feds will let you do it,"
So let me see if I understand this correctly. Daniels figures that cutting costs and not getting alternative funding if the costs can't be cut is more important than safety.

Governor Daniels, do you remember this? Is this what you want? Well, it you're going to ignore safety standards, then it is what you want, regardless of how much you might spin it.

It's time to ditch Mitch.

You can't stop the Ted.

A Message to CNN

While covering the flap over President Obama's speech at Notre Dame, you hosted noted anti-choice terrorist Randall Terry and Catholic League head bully Bill Donohue.

I'm just wondering, when you talk of issues affecting African-Americans, do you try to get the Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Kaln in to give his opinion? Based on who you like to give airtime to, it seems likely.

On Pelosi

Conservatives: "Waterboarding isn't torture! We're saving lives! Ticking time bomb! Ticking time bomb!"
News: "Pelosi may have known about waterboarding-"
Conservatives: "OMGZORZ EVIL BITCH PELOSI IS LIBERAL LYING TORTURER LOCK HER UP IMPEACH HER THROW OUT THE DEMMYCRATZ CUZ THEY KNEW TOO"
Liberals: "Uh, weren't you just saying that waterboarding wasn't torture?"
Conservatives: "WHO CARES PELOSI KNEW SO IT'S EVIL"
Me: "Shut the fuck up."

By the way: For any of you fellow liberals out there who might be thinking that Pelosi needs to be raked over the coals for this, I'd like to congratulate you on once again doing the Right's job for them.

No More Wasted Efforts

I've been nice. Really, I have.

I've covered for this administration pretty wholeheatedly. I've tried to keep everyone from jumping the gun and forming circular firing squads with everything I've got, and I haven't had much success, I'll admit. I keep trying anyway.

But if you're going to do things like this, I'm not going to bother.

Save yourself.

The Floydism of Republicans

So not long ago, while still trying to get an understanding of the mindset that could possible think Mustardgate was a serious issue to attack President Obama on, I came to a startling, cold realization.

The talking heads of the GOP are Sally Floyd. If you're not familiar with Sally, I'll explain. Sally Floyd is a Marvel comics character who was notable a few years ago for an incredibly stupid list of complaints against Captain America, presented after the Civil War event. Among those, that he doesn't go to enough Nascar races, watch YouTube and the Simpsons, and doesn't know what Myspace is.

Fans were outraged by the sheer stupidity of it all, as to anyone with half a brain, they realized that those are merely fads - and while they may last a good long time, and may even become a part of our national heritage, they don't encompass what America truly is. And I realize that is the lens through which Republicans view the world.

If you aren't up to date with x, y and z - then you're not doing your part as a true American. If you don't fall into column 1, 2 or 3 - then you're not living as a true American. The biggest problem with all of these things, beyond the fact that its incredibly stupid to hold it up as your litmus test of what qualifies one to be an American, is the fleeting nature of these things.

Lets say right now it's 'cool' to hate on latte drinkers, what about in five years, when the fad flips and everyone, including yourselves, are drinking lattes? Of course the hypocrisy will be lost... if they even change at all.

So I'll say it, just as every sane human being would. The fads, or non-fads, or even choices we make as Americans, does not dictate our status as Americans. Our choice of condiments doesn't dictate our status as Americans. Our choice of clothing doesn't dictate our status as Americans. These things are, and always will be fleeting. 10 years ago, the complaint would probably have been over him ordering a CHEDDAR burger, "What is American cheese not good enough for him?" 10 years from now, the complaint may have been over the fact he ordered it medium well.

There's your problem GOP. You don't actually understand America, and as a result, are forced to try and explain it with the current (or sometimes out-of-date) cultural memes. You don't comprehend America's heart, soul, and promise; And that's why you're currently imploding.

On Libertarians

Libertardianism is a failure on every front. It's unfeasible, unworkable, and idiotic. I would suggest to libertardians that they grow the fuck up, move out of their parents' basements, stop jerking their shriveled dicks to that reactionary asshole Rand, and spend a few years working a real job, making real wages (read: shit), and dealing with real problems. That usually snaps them out of their Randian fantasies PDQ.

TIME Magazine: "GOP DOA?"

Hat tip to Left in Aboite for the following story: Republicans in Distress: Is the Party Over? - TIME
These days, Republicans have the desperate aura of an endangered species. They lost Congress, then the White House; more recently, they lost a slam-dunk House election in a conservative New York district, then Senator Arlen Specter.
(...)
As the party has shrunk to its base, it has catered even more to its base's biases, insisting that the New Deal made the Depression worse, carbon emissions are fine for the environment and tax cuts actually boost revenues — even though the vast majority of historians, scientists and economists disagree. The RNC is about to vote on a kindergartenish resolution to change the name of its opponent to the Democrat Socialist Party. This plays well with hard-core culture warriors and tea-party activists convinced that a dictator-President is plotting to seize their guns, choose their doctors and put ACORN in charge of the Census, but it ultimately produces even more shrinkage, which gives the base even more influence — and the death spiral continues. "We're excluding the young, minorities, environmentalists, pro-choice — the list goes on," says Olympia Snowe of Maine, one of two moderate Republicans left in the Senate after Specter's switch. "Ideological purity is not the ticket to the promised land."
When even the august and solidly conservative TIME Magazine, child of Hadden and Luce, is declaring that the GOP may well be in its final throes, even I have to admit that things are looking grim for them. This is not out of some level of concern for the GOP itself, or its more strident followers, but for those caught in the middle - the middle-of-the-road conservatives and the centrists who lean Republican. They don't dare tread onto our side, either out of extremist-implanted fear of liberalism as a whole, or because they don't think they'll find a place.

If they band together, and build a new party apart from the decaying remains of the old, they may yet be able to keep conservatism going. If they don't and they fail to join, or they let themselves be pushed farther into conservatism and into the dangerously extreme territory being currently occupied by the "mainstream" Republicans, then they are assuredly doomed.

The modern, Reagan/Bush/Bush Jr./RushSeanBillGlenn brand of extreme conservatism, the kind that gave Reagan room to declare government the enemy, gave Bush I the drive to invade in the Middle East to protect our oil interests, and gave Bush II the means to dismantle America from its center outward while we cowered in fear, is dying. There are no two ways about it. They will either splinter into multiple groups, each working for its own goals, or they will realize their mistakes and return from the brink of madness.

Santayana said, "Fanaticism consists in redoubling your effort when you have forgotten your aim." One wonders whether the realization of their forgotten aim will dawn on the GOP's fanatics before or after they've lost all the moderates.

PETA Rides Mustardgate's Coattails: Are You Convinced Yet That They're Attention-Whoring Scum?

Straight from the horse's ass: PETA sends stinkburgersveggie burgers to Ray's Hell Burger in the wake of "Mustardgate".

Are you convinced yet? PETA sees a story getting coverage and jumps right the fuck onto it. They know that this is going to get them attention, and for once I hope it does, because if we can get the GOP and the Petards taken down in one great swoop, it'll be a great day for those of us who aren't toally fucking batshit loco.

Seriously, PETA is a bunch of idiots. They know that publicity stunts and sexism sell, and they know their rabid, spoiled, teenage hordes won't care what happens as loing as the attention keeps coming. I'm hoping this administration will do something with their terrorist-supporting, criminal, threatening, sexist, stupid asses.

OR maybe the problem will solve itself - like I said, if we can tie them to the anchor we call "Mustardgate", they'll sink like stones.

Alan Keyes: F**king Crazy Criminal

Alan Keyes, Obama Birth Certificate Obsessive, Arrested On Charges Of Trespassing | TPMDC
One-time presidential candidate, failed MSNBC talk show host, and U.S. Senate hopeful Alan Keyes was one of 22 people arrested this morning on charges of trespassing. The group--26 in total--had convened to protest President Barack Obama's upcoming commencement speech at Notre Dame University.
Sadly, there's no indication of whether or not the key to Keyes' cell will be "lost". Worse yet, I know this is going to fuel his paranoid insanity - he'll claim it's "oppression" and "censorship" and that Obama had him personally arrested or something.

Hopefully, they'll give him a psychological once-over before he's allowed to be free, and realize he's crazy as a shithouse rat and has a serious case of Obama Derangement Syndrome.

On John Edwards

Am I really supposed to care about this whole thing? I mean, am I honestly supposed to get all indignant and pissy?

I really don't, and I really can't. I just don't give a damn about it. It's a personal matter, not a pressing issue.

On "Mustardgate" and the Death of the GOP

The conservative movement is dead.

Its remaining loyalists, however, are a collective version of Herbert West.

Move your dead bones, GOP.

On So-Called Thoughtcrime

If hate crimes are thoughtcrime, then murder is thoughtcrime as well.

Not-Joe the Not-Plumber leaves the GOP

From Crooks and Liars: Even Joe The Plumber Is Sick Of The GOP, Announces He's Leaving The Party
Samuel Wurzelbacher, better known as Joe the Plumber, tells TIME he's so outraged by GOP overspending, he's quitting the party — and he's the bull's-eye of its target audience.

And all I can think is "ABANDON SHIP!", as member by member the GOP implodes. I've been thinking it since the election occurred and shared it with people I know - and now I'm going to say it here. The GOP is going to split up into several parties before too long. I may end up being wrong, but for the moment, I'm going to put my money on that.

Right now the GOP is apparently not 'pure' enough for folks like Not-Joe, and too way out wacky rightwing for anyone who leans moderate. They're hemorrhaging their base from both sides, not a good position for them to be in.

A Burger With a Side of Obama Derangement Syndrome

Dijon Derangement Syndrome: Conservative media attack Obama for burger order | Media Matters for America
SUMMARY: Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and Mark Steyn criticized President Obama as an elitist because he ordered a burger with "spicy mustard" or "Dijon mustard."
This? This is what they're reduced to?

That does it, I'm agreeing with Craig, the conservative movement is hereby dead and these are its last words.

O'Reilly the Hateful Harassturbator Lies About the Hate Crimes Bill (or, "O'Reilly Opens His Mouth")

From Media Matters for America: O'Reilly smears hate crimes bill with false claim that pedophiles could be protected
On the May 5 edition of Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor, host Bill O'Reilly falsely claimed that pedophiles could be protected under the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act -- which defines as a crime acts of attempted violence "motivated by prejudice based on the actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability of the victim." Specifically, O'Reilly said: "[Y]ou could make an argument that a pedophile has a disease, and because the disease is there, he's a target or she's a target."
I think it's pretty odd that Billo the Clown has a hate on for the Hate Crimes Bill, especially since if he honestly thinks that it'd protect perverts, then he should be all for it.

Or have we forgotten this?

Mike Pence: Fumbling Anti-Science Moron

From Pharyngula: Republicans can't even admit their anti-evolution leanings
Chris Matthews ask Representative Mike Pence a simple question — "Do you believe in evolution?" — and Pence spends 5 minutes squirming avoiding giving an answer. He changes the subject repeatedly, to global warming and stem cells, and tries to pretend that the Republican party doesn't have a serious problem with an anti-science agenda, which he himself is demonstrating.

I remind all present - again - that I have never voted for this idiot, and wouldn't if I had the chance. I take no responsibility for his coninued infection of Washington with his particular brand of sheer, mind-boggling stupidity, his support of racist bigot radio hate-spewers, his war-mongering, his lack of tact and inability to show respect to those whose lives he indirectly helped end, his collaboration with the scum of the earth, his need for discrimination, &c.

That said, I once again register my insistence that I would never vote for him, solely because he is a dishonest, mendacious, lying, spineless, science-denying weasel.

An Observation

Arlen Specter: Whoops, I Forgot I'm a Democrat Now

CQ Politics | Specter Says He ‘Misspoke” on Minnesota Senate Race
The political whirlwind that surrounded Sen. Arlen Specter ’s switch from the Republican to Democratic party had him forgetting which team he is rooting for in 2010.

But after voicing support for Republican Norm Coleman in his contested Minnesota Senate race, Specter said he misspoke in a New York Times magazine interview and is supporting Democrats.
(...)
“In the swirl of moving from one caucus to another, I have to get used to my new teammates,” he said. “I’m ordinarily pretty correct in what I say. I’ve made a career of being precise. I conclusively misspoke.”

Asked who he’s backing now in elections, Specter said, “I’m looking for more Democratic members. Nothing personal.”
Uh... huh. Sen. Specter, did you forget that, here in the Democratic Party, we try not to pull the Republican pattern of saying something horrid and then backpedaling with "it was a joke" and "I was misquoted"? I mean, I'll admit "I misspoke" is at least something of an admission of error, but you could at least try to be more careful and maybe not joke about something this serious.

Next time, just come right out and say what you mean, and don't mess around if you screw up - be expeditious and say you were incorrect right away.

Just a tip.

Samuel "Joe the Plumber" the Unlicensed Contractor, Tax Cheat, and Non-Business-Owning Small Business Owner Wurzelbacher Needs to Add "Bigot" to His Name

From Reverent & Free: R&F Retraction
I'd like to retract something I wrote about Samuel "Joe The Plumber" Wurzelbacher last October.

Me : "...I'm sure he's a swell guy."

I was wrong. He's a fucking bigot.

This has been a R&F Retraction.
Oh Craig, surely you're overreacting, it can't possibly be that b-
Q: In the last month, same-sex marriage has become legal in Iowa and Vermont. What do you think about same-sex marriage at a state level?

JTP: At a state level, it's up to them. I don't want it to be a federal thing. I personally still think it's wrong. People don't understand the dictionary--it's called queer. Queer means strange and unusual. It's not like a slur, like you would call a white person a honky or something like that. You know, God is pretty explicit in what we're supposed to do--what man and woman are for. Now, at the same time, we're supposed to love everybody and accept people, and preach against the sins. I've had some friends that are actually homosexual. And, I mean, they know where I stand, and they know that I wouldn't have them anywhere near my children.
Samuel, I hereby order you to shut up.
On behalf of America, shut up.
On behalf of those of us who realized your fifteen minutes were up the moment you lied about who you were to ask a lying, loaded question to our current President, shut up.
On behalf of those of us who don't care about Fox Noise's worship of you for being a good little liar, shut up.
On behalf of those who have watched you gain your undeserved fame for your mendacity and willingness to say what the other bigots want you to say, shut up.
But most of all, on behalf of those of us who tire of the hate, the bigotry, and the endless repetition of hateful, harmful lies, shut up.

Samuel Wurzelbacher, shut the hell up.

A Particularly Relevant Political Observation

If someone couches everything they stand for in terms of "freedom", you should be extremely wary of them, as they probably don't even know the meaning of the word.

On Local Radio

I was looking at 1190 AM WOWO's Program Lineup when an idea suddenly came to me, a realization of amazing proportions.

You and I both know (presuming you live around here) that WOWO is, by and large, Ft. Wayne's home for insane right-wing horseshit. That shouldn't be too surprising to anyone. What came to me is this: When the sanest program you have in your lineup is Coast to Coast AM, your radio station has some serious problems.

Back Again

"Every time I think I'm out, they pull me back in."

Douchebag: Ben Nelson

From HuffPo: Ben Nelson Plans To Oppose Public Health Plan
Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) said Friday that he will oppose legislation that would give people the option of a public health insurance plan. The move puts him on the opposite side of two-thirds of Americans.

(...)Nelson's problem, he told CQ, is that the public plan would be too attractive and would hurt the private insurance plans. "At the end of the day, the public plan wins the game," Nelson said. Including a public option in a health plan, he said, was a "deal breaker."
Uh-huh. So you, a guy who gets his healthcare at our expense, think we shouldn't have a public option because it'll hurt the poor, put-upon insurance companies.

Well, fuck you soundly, sir. I'm going to go way out on a limb here and guess thaty you've never really had to worry about not having insurance because it's too expensive, or because you can't get insured because of a "pre-existing condition", or been told that there's some convoluted section in the half-point-size print of your policy that says they don't have to pay for some illness or injury that has brought you to the brink of financial ruin. If you're so damn convinced that the "free market" can provide, then why don't you give up your publicly-funded healthcare?

And why, pray tell, is he really opposing it? Well, it might have something to do with the money he gets from the big insurance companies. They pay him the big bucks so he can stay in office, and in return he sells us out to the greedy corporate insurers.

Ben Nelson, you are a douchebag.

GOP's Latest Fear Tactic: "Be Afraid of Who Obama Meets With - Congressional Hispanics!"

From Think Progress: Hispanic Caucus offended by images in Boehner’s fearmongering video.
On Wednesday, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) released a fearmongering video, asking if Americans “feel safer” under President Obama. But one image in the video has caused outrage in Congress. After a shot of Obama shaking hands with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, the video cuts to an image of Obama meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus(.)
Oh, Lordy. They couldn't be digging that hole they're in any faster without the aid of dynamite, power tools, and an army of trained moles. Is this what it's come to, GOP? Smear-and-fear videos and bashing your own Congressional colleagues?

Fuck it, they're done. Warm up the bus, this game is over.

On Souter's Retirement

Better it was now than a year ago. Now if only Scalia and Scalito - I mean, Alito - would get the hell off the bench, we'd be good.

Rick Sanchez: "What the Hell?"

I'm with Rick. What the Hell does that even mean?

... Also, Toomey? Mainstream? In what reality?

Specter switching, now that... I'm more and more convinced I woke up in Bizarro reality.

Arlen Specter switches parties

From the NY Daily News: Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter to switch parties and become a Democrat
Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter shocked the political world Tuesday by jumping from the GOP to the Democratic Party – likely handing President Obama an EZ-Pass to drive his agenda on Capitol Hill.

The sudden move, coming as the veteran lawmaker already faces a fierce 2010 primary challenge from the right in the Keystone State, all but gives Democrats and Obama a roadblock-free Senate, putting them on the cusp of a 60-vote majority.

"I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans," Specter announced on his campaign Web site.

"I have decided to run for re-election in 2010 in the Democratic primary," Specter he added.

Well, I didn't see that coming. I'd like to thank the Club for Growth(SNRK) for this, and their backing of Toomey for the Republican Primary. Of course it's politically motivated, Specter doesn't want to lose his seat. Is he the best example of a Democrat? No, but he's not the worst example of a Republican either. He's always more or less cut close to the middle on many issues.

I'm interested in seeing where this will develop with the cloture votes, seeing as Arlen won't be, being pressured by the Republicans to vote with them (regardless of issue) just to try and maintain enough support to survive the primary.

On top of that, it's just a fantastic way to demotivate the GOP.

Something Stinks In Indiana

And it's not the factory farms.

Baby's molester gets two years; could be out in less than six months

Yes, you heard right. Rape a baby, get six months in prison!

Bobby Joe Flores had gonorrhea. And at some point after he baby-sat for a 1-year-old girl, so did she.

But a state law prevented that information from being presented to a jury, so Flores pleaded guilty to a lesser-grade child molesting charge.

The result Monday was a prison sentence under which Flores could be free in less than a year.

Again, yes, you heard right. This... THING... raped a 1-year-old baby, gave her gonorrhea.... And because he had an STD, was able to get off with barely a slap on the wrist, because:

Indiana law prohibits the disclosure of information related to the identities of people who contract communicable diseases.

Such information can be disclosed only if the person signs a release; if the information does not identify the person with the disease; or if the release is necessary to enforce public health laws, according to state law.

Which prevented the prosecution from bringing the most incriminating evidence up in the trial.

You know, one would think that there would be another exemption in there for cases involving SEXUAL ASSAULT. But I guess that would mean working to protect the victims, as opposed to babying criminals.

And the thing that makes me most livid?

With 189 days of jail credit, Flores could be released from prison in as little as six months because Indiana law grants prisoners in the Department of Correction two days of jail credit for every day served without a disciplinary action.

He was going to get eight years, but the judge suspended six of those in favor of probation... And, in another case of babying criminals, Indiana state law will see him free before the end of the year.

Moral of the story: If you're a child predator, contract an STD and move to Indiana! Not only will the law pamper you by letting you off lightly for giving children horrific diseases, but if you behave in prison, you'll only have to actually serve one-third of your sentence! Which will probably ALREADY be cut down to one-quarter of its initially-proposed length in favor of probation!

AND NOW FOR THE STORY THAT WILL MAKE YOU GO "HUH?"

Toddler's abuser admits guilt, gets 14 years

Uh...huh...

Charged as an adult, 17-year-old Ahmad O. Alexander admitted Monday to doing horrible things to a toddler left in his care.

Alexander pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent and aggravated battery, both Class B felonies, with an agreement capping his prison sentence at 14 years, according to court documents.

His girlfriend pleaded guilty earlier this year to a charge of neglect of a dependent.

.....DOES ANYONE ELSE NOTICE THE DISCONNECT HERE?

Rape a baby and give her an STD, get six months! Neglect and physically abuse a toddler, get 14 years! Yeah! Yeah, that sounds... that sounds... fair...

Wait, what? How does that make sense? The rapist gets a far lighter sentence than... what?

I think my brain is broken. The dissonance has left it FUBAR'd...

Also, notice how sterile-sounding the first article is, when addressing a rapist's actions... But when we get to Ahmad, they break out loaded rhetoric to portray him as some kind of inhuman monster (but, when addressing his girlfriend, they revert back to using the same old sterile writing style used for the rapist.)

Now, don't get me wrong... I think all three of them are absolute, worthless scum. But why use the loaded phrasing for only one of them? Why do the rapist and the willfully neglectful mother get treated with more impartiality than the abuser? Given the Gazette's tendency towards right-leaning, I wouldn't put it past them to have broken out the "evil monster" brush simply because of the abuser's "Muslim"-sounding name, but without talking to the author responsible for the article, I can't make any concrete calls :/

Anyway. I've said my piece (admittedly disjointedly... But I find it hard to think 100% coherently when something triggers one of my psychotic-rage buttons - one of which is child rape. Abuse is horrific in and of itself, but in my eyes, raping a child is even worse and deserves the harshest penalties possible, short of the death sentence. I simply cannot wrap my mind around the concept of coddling a child rapist in this manner.)

Now, what's your take on the whole sorry situation?

Pence: More Continual Bastardry

From Blue Indiana: Rep. Mike Pence on War
Just so we're clear, here's the rundown:

Congressman Mike Pence on the Iraq War:
And so it went, up and down the street, in between tents and tables, squeezing past pedestrians to inspect the offerings in one booth after another, we milled around this marketplace in downtown Baghdad for more than an hour. I told reporters afterward that it was just like any open-air market in Indiana in the summertime.
Congressman Mike Pence on cap-and-trade legislation:
"I think, rightly understood, the cap and trade legislation represents an economic declaration of war on the Midwest by liberals in Washington, D.C.," Pence said in a telephone interview.

Real War = Peace. Energy Independence = War.

Any questions?
Yes, actually, I have a question:

Why is this man still being allowed to open his yap without someone rightfully telling him to stuff a sock in his warmongering wordhole? Why is it that the people around here seem to think he's the greatest thing since the wheel? Why is it this man is allowed to continue lying, day in and day out, especially on our televisions, without anybody trying to set him straight?

Mike Pence is, to put it bluntly, stupid. Yes, that's the kindest way I can put it: He's stupid. He says stupid things, he believes stupid things, therefore he qualifies as stupid.

4/17/2009

On Tea Parties

Aren't these people, the self-styled "patriots" bitching about taxes that won't actually go up for most of them but are doing what Fox Noise tells them to anyway, the same ones who told us to "love it or leave it" these past eight years?

What changed to suddenly make them stalwart defenders of the right to protest? Oh, right - they lost.

4/14/2009

A picture is worth a thousand words.

You can't have it both ways, Governor.

4/07/2009

Vermont joins the party.

From the Battleboro Reformer: Vermont legalizes gay marriage with veto override
The House recorded a dramatic 100-49 vote - the minimum needed - to override Gov. Jim Douglas' veto. Its vote followed a much easier override vote in the Senate, which rebuffed the Republican governor with a vote of 23-5.

Vermont was the first state to legalize civil unions for same-sex couples and joins Connecticut, Massachusetts and Iowa in giving gays the right to marry. Their approval of gay marriage came from the courts.

So in the span of what? A week? We've had both Iowa and now Vermont legalize same-sex marriage. Considering how long we went with no more states added to the small list that allowed for same-sex marriage, it's weird to think of 2 happening so quickly.

Still, its great news to wake up to. One state at a time.

4/03/2009

Please, No

From ABC News:Binghamton Rampage Leaves 14 Dead, Police Don't Know Motive
As many as 14 people have been shot dead in a murderous three-minute shooting rampage inside an upstate New York civic association building that caters to immigrants, according to federal and state authorities.

According to Binghamton Police Chief Joe Zikuski, the gunman entered the one-story American Civic Association in downtown Binghamton at 10:31 a.m. today and began his shooting spree.

By 10:33 a.m., the shooting was over and 14 people -- including the gunman -- lay dead, the chief said.

At least four people were listed in critical condition. Earlier, sources said as many as 26 people were wounded.
I'm not even going to make any political hay out of this. I'm just so fucking sick of it that I can't bring myself to do so.

Why is this happening so much lately? How many more times will it have to happen before we do something about it?

I declare a do-over!

From CNN: Alaska GOP calls for Begich resignation
"The Alaska Republican Party…believes that current Senator Mark Begich should resign his position to allow for a new, special election, so Alaskans may have the chance to vote for a senator without the improper influence of the corrupt Department of Justice," the Alaska Republican Party's Web site states.

What the fuck? In what reality does this happen? Do they poison the water in Alaska or something? Seriously, I'm trying to figure out "A series of tubes", "Mooselini" and now "SOMEONE HIT THE RESET BUTTON!" Just what the shit.

Have these people never actually experienced the real world?

Iowa lives up to its motto.

From CNN: Iowa high court strikes down same-sex marriage ban.
Iowa becomes the third state in the nation to allow same-sex marriage, after Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Friday's decision upheld a 2007 ruling by a lower court that Iowa's 1998 law limiting marriage to heterosexual couples went against the state's constitution. It becomes effective in 21 days.

"This is a great day for civil rights in Iowa," said attorney Dennis Johnson, a co-counsel with Lambda Legal, which filed the lawsuit on behalf of six same-sex couples seeking to marry in Iowa. "Go get married. Live happily ever after," he said at a news conference where there was loud clapping among plaintiffs.

This came out of left field for me, and I'll be blunt, I hadn't expected it. It was wonderful news to wake up to, that's for certain.

Iowa: "Our Liberties We Prize and Our Rights We Will Maintain"

Amen.

I Always Feel Like Somebody's Watching Me

So I was checking out my SiteMeter, because I'm just so concerned over how many visitors I get </sarcasm>, and I notice something odd about a recent visitor. I figure it's nothing, and I'm being ridiculous, until I see their details:
Look closely at that IP block. That resolves to the National Republican Congressional Committee. Seems that someone's keeping tabs on me.

I can't imagine why. I'm not important. I don't get many visitors. I'm a minnow in a pond full of lunkers. Why would anyone care enough to keep track of me? Wouldn't that time and effort be better served on things and people that matter? Wouldn't keeping track of the high-profile people be more productive?

Attention: Trolling, Immature Republican Idiots

Grow up.

That is all.

Blago Indicted Federally

From Reuters: Former Illinois Governor Blagojevich indicted
Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has been indicted for corruption while in office, including trying to sell the U.S. Senate seat that was held by President Barack Obama, prosecutors said on Thursday.
So what's going to be his story on this one? Tax-loving commies? The President out to get him? Or is he just going to sit there and do nothing during trial then claim he was denied his rights, again?

I'm going to be watching this closely, and I'm going to laugh the day Blago gets sent off to federal prison to bunk with Bubba, Nail, and Snake. Something's in, Blago, and it ain't the fix!

No Massive Explosions or World Chaos

Yeah, seems that the whole Conficker thing didn't pay off like laymen thought it would. Since it didn't turn out like some dumb action movie, with the whole world being locked down and things blowing up, it obviously means it was some big joke and everyone was just blowing it out of proportion like Y2K, right?

I doubt that. Five will get you ten that it'll suddenly open up the floodgates and we'll all be screwed if we're not paying attention.

O'Reilly: Still an Eliminationist Bastard

From Think Progress: O’Reilly: If Cheney had ‘an assassination squad,’ he would have killed Seymour Hersh ‘a long time ago.’
In an Boston Herald op-ed today, Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly mocked Hersh’s claim, saying “If Cheney really had such a crew,” reporters like Hersh would have already been killed:
The other day, left-wing muckraker Seymour Hersh went on MSNBC and said he had information, provided by the usual anonymous sources, that Dick Cheney was running an assassination squad out of the White House.

I have but one simple observation: If Cheney really had such a crew, Hersh would have been dead a long time ago, and so would most everybody at MSNBC.
(emphasis in original)
One of the commenters at TP noted that this is part of O'Reilly's alleged "humor".

You ever notice how wingnut "humor" always has an emphasis on killing people they disagree with and attacking anyone of a less-privileged position?

Anyway, this isn't surprising - O'Bastard isn't even a bit sorry about his hate and the role it's had in eliminationism. He's just going to keep doing this until someone holds him accountable.

You Tell Me

What the hell was that conference about? Was it about the President assuring us he's got a plan and understands the gravity of all this, or was it just the press pool getting their revenge for him not showing up at the goddamn Gridiron Club? Did any of those questions have any real relevence?

Liveblogging the News Conference

And here comes the OMGZ TEH BAYBEEZ lie.

There's a reason that adult stem cells have shown research progress: BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND YOUR MASTERS WOULDN'T ALLOW EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH. Idiot.

You have to be fucking kidding.

... I pride myself on my ability to remain calm in the face of right wing insanity, but this? This manages to send me into a blind rage each and every time.

Things like this? Are only supposed to be exaggerations in movies, or Onion articles. You know? Satire.

But there it is. Large as life, and twice as real. At least Canada forced them to apologize. Even if it was just a shitty FauxNoise non-apology apology.

Nothing to LOL About

Our economy is in the tank and we're on the edge of destruction, but that doesn't matter, because Obama laughed.

The Israeli Defense Force is being accused of yet more war crimes, and their troops are buying shirts making light of and celebrating their own violent, savage tendencies, but that doesn't matter, because Obama laughed.

Our own troops are reveling in their own inhumanity, but that doesn't matter, because Obama laughed.

I'm not laughing. But it's not because Obama laughed.

Get your goddamn priorities in order.

From The Journal Gazette: Errors hurt op-ed’s validity
I peruse the opinion page with an eye for interesting topics and seek out differing points of view to challenge my own thinking. Donna Volmerding’s essay, “Obama policies veiled socialism” (March 17), certainly caught my attention.

On Going Galt

Let me clear this up for you idiots.  You are not John Galt.  You don’t have any creativity.  You won’t be missed if you leave society, and you won’t last outside of it.  Besides, in case you pants-pissing whiners missed it, this isn’t a stupid novel by a reactionary anti-Soviet asshole, it’s real life, and in real life people like you are a minority and the rest of us have already seen through your garbage.

I know you’re convinced, with the fervor of a flagellating zealot, of your perfection, your superiority, and your irreplaceability in society.  But let me break it to you: you’re not unique little snowflakes.  You’re ignorant, cookie-cutter children with overly-common skills.  We can replace you with people who don’t believe destructive, selfish bullshit.  In fact, I propose we do that anyway - if you won’t follow up on your toothless threats on your own, we’ll make you.

In Lou Dobbs' World, No Irish Need Apply

From Huffington Post: Lou Dobbs Complains About 'Ethnic Holidays' Like St. Patrick's Day
Lou Dobbs has a lot of time to fill on his radio show, and no one much wants to talk about NAFTA Highways or the coming Invasion of the Mexican Lepers anymore, so this presents difficulties. Luckily, yesterday was Saint Patrick's Day -- or, as it is also known, "Amateur Night (Observed)" -- the one day a year where we celebrate Irish stuff. Anyway, Dobbs is against "ethnic holidays," but that's not all -- he is evidently powerfully confused by them.
"And by the way, I've got to wish to you, each and every one, Happy Saint Patrick's Day! I do that, and I have to be honest with you, despite my fervent anti-ethnic holiday position. That's right! I'm against St. Patrick's Day. I'm against St. Columbus Day. Saint Joseph's Day. I'm against all of those things.I mean, what is with all of these ethnic holidays? I mean how about an American Day? How about were all the same kind of day?"
Uh, Lou? I know you're really old, and really racist, and really, really xenophobic, but this isn't the late 19th Century. We don't do the whole "HUR HUR DEM WACKY IRISH" thing as a people anymore, since the Irish-American community is a vital part of our country, and, oh yeah, it's also INCREDIBLY FUCKING OFFENSIVE.

Personally, I'm not really surprised by this or anything, since it's Lou Dobbs, the guy who's spent his past couple years telling us that the Mexican Leper Rapist Gangs are waiting at our borders just waiting for us to build a six-mile-high fence so they can tunnel under it.

Oh, and Lou? We have a shitload of "non-ethnic" holidays. You know, unless you consider all those government-mandated holidays like Thanksgiving and Independence Day "ethnic".

Wait... What now?

So... Republicans are apparently ripping on the President for appearing on Leno, and for filling out a basketball bracket. Because, according to them, he should be telling AIG what to do with its salaries and bonuses (when they were just... criticizing him for proposing just that...)

Jesus Christ, these people are grasping at some seriously flimsy straws. In a hay bale that's on fire.

I wonder how long it's going to take for them to get burned...

Irony, Thy Name is Limbaugh

From Media Matters: Limbaugh Wire: 3/18/2009 Part II
LIMBAUGH: In the meantime, the new McCarthyism in Washington, D.C., this morning during a House Financial Services panel hearing. This is the Chairman Barney Frank.

FRANK [audio clip]: We will also be asking Mr. Liddy to give us the names of the recipients. They have sent us some information under the confidentiality rules. I've spoken to Chairman Kanjorski about this. If Mr. Liddy declines to give us the names, then I will convene the committee to vote a subpoena for the names. So we do intend to use our power to get the names of the people here.

LIMBAUGH: Contractually obligated bonuses -- Barney Frank and the new McCarthyism. He will go the route of a subpoena to get the names of the recipients if the government-installed CEO Ed Liddy does not provide the names. The next question that will be asked once these names have been produced -- and they will be -- then these people will be called up to testify before Chairman Frank's committee.
Uh, Limpdick? Subpoenaing people who are directly flouting basic morals and senses of human decency by saying they don't have to give back money that was not supposed to be theirs has nothing do to with McCarthy's "communist"-routing witchhunts. This isn't a case of "you'll admit you're a traitor and give me names, and by the way you're obviously a commie so your life is now ruined", this is "give the fucking money back NOW and stop covering for your rich-boy buddies who think they're above the law".

Then again, I don't expect him to understand it - to reich-wingers like Rushbo, McCarthy was a demigod, a man of impeccable character whose life-destroying accusations were just and correct, especially since we wanted to not be like Them Godless Reds. I don't think he'sconfused about this, though; I simply believe he's high on the Oxycontin again.

Remember, you can hear Limpballs' garbage on AM 1190 WOWO, Ft. Wayne's home for deranged revisionist horseshit.

Please, PLEASE, Tell Me This Letter Is a Joke, PLEASE

From The Journal Gazette: Web-only letter: Impeach Obama and others because of poor economy
It is time to ask Congress to request that President Obama, Vice President Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Leader Harry Reid to resign. If they don’t, then it is time for impeachment of all four.

President Obama campaigned on change, and we sure are getting it. He signs the stimulus package without even giving anyone in Congress time to read what was in it. He made the statement that there was no “pork” in it. Frankly, 90 percent of it is pork.

On Oct. 10, 2007, the Dow Jones hit a high, closed at 14,164.53. Who was president then? On Nov. 20, 2008, the Dow was 7,552.53. Who was elected president just before that?

And they say it isn’t done yet. Who was the president who just signed the stimulus package?

This is a sure sign that we have elected a president who was this country’s biggest mistake over the last 100 years. Every time Obama speaks out or promotes something, the markets take another big drop.

I heard an economist make the statement that the next election, the Democrats will lose 40 seats in the House and possibly many more.

Why did people elect our present president? This is a question I heard quite often. He made many promises to the poor just to buy votes. When more than 90 percent of the black population voted for him along with the welfare people, whom he promised all kinds of help, what would you expect?

I hope those of you who helped put him in office will soon see just what you have done. President Bush had a lot of problems with the help of the Democratic House the last two year, but we now have more problems and debts that we will never got out of. President Obama has done more damage in 30 days than Bush did in eight years.

It is time to contact your senators and representatives in Washington, asking for their resignations. The final nails are going into the U.S. coffin, and we will soon be buried.

DALE BIBERSTEIN Bluffton
For the love of all that is good and holy, please, please, PLEASE let this letter be some kind of bad joke. The idea that someone can be this abnormally, irredeemably stupid and still be able to breathe without being re-taught every two seconds is unbelievable.

And it's really galling considering they just published a letter warning against this kind of irreconcilable stupidity.

Follow up to "Michael Steele: Gone, Baby, Gone" - Blackwell confirms Republicans are the Christian party.

From TPMDC: Former RNC Candidate Blackwell: Steele Needs To Re-Read The Bible
"Chairman Steele, as the leader of America's Pro-Life conservative party, needs to re-read the Bible, the U.S. Constitution, and the 2008 GOP Platform. He then needs to get to work -- or get out of the way.
Yes, because all conservatives must be Christians, its in the by-laws. Really, can the conservative movement shoot itself in the foot anymore? I honestly believe they've gone into a full on sprint towards being a regional party. Of course I'm sure Mr. Blackwell feels, like Former President George Herbert Walker Bush, that atheists can't really be considered to be citizens or patriots, either.

Vatican: "Rape < TEH BORSHINZ"

From BBC NEWS: Vatican backs abortion row bishop
A senior Vatican cleric has defended the excommunication in Brazil of the mother and doctors of a young girl who had an abortion with their help.

The nine-year-old had conceived twins after alleged abuse by her stepfather.

Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re told Italian paper La Stampa that the twins "had the right to live" and attacks on Brazil's Catholic Church were unfair.
So a rape baby has "a right to live", but the 9-year-old girl who was raped to produce it doesn't?

Fuck you. Fuck your Bronge-Age death cult. Fuck that noise. If that's what you honestly believe, then it's no wonder that your numbers are dwindling. I hope history leaves you the fuck behind.

It's the same old story...

...the same old song and dance, my friends.

First it was Fleischer saying that "Obama should be thankful that he inherited a world without Saddam Hussein" claiming that Saddam Hussein was behind 9-11 (but he DID inherit a world with AL QUAEDA and BIN LADEN and the people who were ACTUALLY RESPONSIBLE for 9-11...)and then backpedaling and claiming that that's "not what he meant" when called on his LIE.

Then it was Frank Gaffney, who spouted off a load of stale, steaming bullshit about how Saddam was behind every terrorist attack in the US from the first WTC bombing, to the OKLAHOMA CITY BOMBING (gee, I distinctly remember that guy being a FAR-RIGHT RACIST WHACKJOB AMERICAN...) to 9-11, along with crackpot conspiracy theories about how Saddam was prepared to attack the US with chemical weapons via... get this... Seriously? SERIOUSLY?

Michael Steele: Gone, Baby, Gone

From the GQ Blog on men.style.com: The Reconstructionist
Do you think homosexuality is a choice?
Oh, no. I don’t think I’ve ever really subscribed to that view, that you can turn it on and off like a water tap. Um, you know, I think that there’s a whole lot that goes into the makeup of an individual that, uh, you just can’t simply say, oh, like, “Tomorrow morning I’m gonna stop being gay.” It’s like saying, “Tomorrow morning I’m gonna stop being black.”
(...)

The choice issue cuts two ways. You can choose life, or you can choose abortion. You know, my mother chose life. So, you know, I think the power of the argument of choice boils down to stating a case for one or the other.

Are you saying you think women have the right to choose abortion?
Yeah. I mean, again, I think that’s an individual choice.
(emphasis added)
Wow. Just wow. Yeah, I'm wagering he'll be gone by this time next week at the latest. After this, they're really going to accelerate the process of throwing him out on his ass.

The truth is, I've formulated a very large, very paranoid theorem as to why this whole thing with Steele happened in the first place: Steele was put in as head of the RNC for an important reason: He's a sacrificial lamb. They knew that he wasn't the far-right demagogue you'd expect to be heading the GOP - why else would there be all this talk of Rushbo as "the de facto head" of the party? - and that his views weren't entirely in line with the major points of the party.

His election sent the racists into screaming fits, swearing that they'd leave the GOP and never return, because the party's main components know there's no follower quite as devout as the one who leaves and comes back. Steele's views, which the right's talking heads can spin as being "liberal", will be cited as the reason that they're putting together a vote of no confidence against him, conveniently whitewashing (if you'll pardon the expression) that the vote is being pushed by someone who became a Republican because the government desegregated his school.

Steele will be ousted, and the right-wing talking heads will claim it's a victory for "conservative values" over "liberalism", with the added coded message that they put a black man "in his place". This is also the main reason why I don't buy into the idea floated by some that the GOP won't oust Steele because it'd make them look like a bunch of racist crackers: their cover story is already written for them, thanks in large part to this interview.

Now, you can buy into all that, or you can just say, "Steele's got diarrhea of the mouth." Hey, either way, the result is the same. The difference is whether you're going to take the logical, succinct approach, or you're going to come up with a sprawling, meandering, half-baked conspiracy hypothesis like I did.

It's Always Florida, Part 3,757

From Sun-Sentinel.com: Sex with a goat. You get to discover the rest.
Sen. Nan Rich, D-Sunrise, recently learned that about two years ago a Panhandle man was suspected of accidentally asphyxiating a family goat with which he was having sex.

Really.

The proposal targets only those who derived or helped others derive "sexual gratification" from an animal. The amendment specified that conventional dog judging contests and animal husbandry practices are permissible.

That last provision tripped up Miami Democratic Sen. Larcenia Bullard.

"People are taking these animals as their husbands? What's husbandry?" she asked.
...oh jeez. Please, please tell me this is just an urban legend or something. Please tell me this isn't true. That's one of the most godawfully-stupid things I've ever had the misfortune of being exposed to.

Is there something in the water down there or what?

Goldberg and O'Reilly: Still Hateful, Eliminationist Bastards

From FOXNews.com, straight from the horse's ass: Bernie Goldberg Names 5 Worst Smear Merchants in Mainstream Media

You'd think Bernie and Faloofah wouldn't be so enthusiastic about naming off lists of people they hate, considering that their rhetoric was the reason why Jim Adkisson walked into a church during a children's music service and opened fire, but these are people that are entirely nourished by their hatred of everyone who isn't rich, white, and neo-conservative like them, and they don't really have anything resembling shame, souls, or intelligence.

But, but they loved each other!

From MSNBC: Report: Bristol Palin and fiancé split
Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston have broken up, two sources tell PEOPLE.

The split happened "a few weeks ago," according to a source close to the couple, but it's unclear what precipitated it. "It was a mutual thing," adds the source.

But I thought Sarah Palin and the Recan'tlicans had told us that they were in love, that's why it was okay that she was pregnant outside of marriage, why they propped them up as the perfect couple! MY WORLD IS SHATTERED!

Why if one didn't know better, they'd swear the whole thing had been forced on them, to make the family look better! But that's crazy-talk.

*COUGH* RUN, LEVI, RUN! *COUGH*

Fox Noise: Still Bastards

Yet more of the Murdoch juggernaut comparing the President to a monkey. I figured that, after the rather large fallout from the "stimulus bill chimp" cartoon, they'd learn. Sadly, this shows they haven't even learned the big lesson from that.

You know things are bad when...

From the Minneapolis Star Tribune: Nearly 700 people apply for 1 janitor job at middle school

MASSILON, Ohio - Evidence of the slumping economy is stacking up at an Ohio school which has nearly 700 applications for one open janitorial job.

Officials at Perry Local Schools near Canton in northeast Ohio say they've extended the deadline until Monday to accommodate the overwhelming response to the week-old posting.

The full-time position at Edison Junior High School pays $15 to $16 an hour plus benefits.

But remember, kids - the economy's going strong and everything's fine! Nothing to worry about here!

Little Mac Scores KO

From the New York Daily News: Young Mac attack: McCain's daughter Meghan dresses down Ann Coulter
Ann Coulter is a nasty, hate-spewing train wreck whose stature in the Republican Party is a recipe for disaster, Meghan McCain blasted in an online essay posted Monday.

"I straight up don't understand this woman or her popularity. I find her offensive, radical, insulting, and confusing all at the same time," wrote the straight talking daughter of former GOP presidential candidate John McCain in her latest essay on the Daily Beast Web site.
Oh hell yes. I know this isn't going to matter, and I know that the Coultergeist will just spin this into more things she can hate and demean, but still, this is what we need - more people calling out the hate of people like Coulter.

I do believe this calls for an "OH SNAP".

Read This Because It's Correct

From Pandagon: Galtin’: The Bow-Out Gang

Whiny objectards and losertarians think that they're John fucking Galt. This comment by MikeEss sets things straight:
If the spirit of John Galt is best embodied by the upper echelon of Wall Street, the clueless leaders of Detroit, the proud men and women who are attempting to outsource every job in America except the very bottom, maids, janitors, and gardeners, or the very top; if those people represent the best of America, then it seems like we really do need to hear the squeak of the tumbrels as they carry the “worthy” to the center of town to be executed.

I know it offends the delicate sensibilities of the overclass to hear such things, especially from the proles, but this shit just can’t go on forever without repercussions.

You treat people like animals and sooner or later those animals are going to show you what being an animal is all about...first hand…

If they want to live in a dog-eat-dog third-world hell hole, where there are only two kinds of people — the ultra-rich and the ultra poor — there are plenty of them around. There’s no reason to make America into another one.

You don’t like it here, get the fuck out.

OTOH, if you are a person who appreciates that the labor of all people is worthy of respect, regardless of what labor entails, then maybe we can work something out.

Maybe the person at the top should only make 20-times the wages of the person on the bottom, instead of 500-times. Maybe you could support Universal Health Care instead of fighting it tooth and nail. Maybe you could begin to understand that taxes are not some arbitrary punishment for being rich, but a cost we all pay for the privilege of living here and enjoying the fruits of American society and infrastructure.

If you can’t handle that “socialism”, then Get. The. Fuck. Out…

Limbaugh misses lunch, starts swallowing own foot.

From the Boston Globe: Limbaugh: Healthcare bill will be named in Kennedy's memory
Continuing his criticism of President Obama, Limbaugh said Obama has "moved on to healthcare. This is highly visible, it's news-leading, gets a great focus, plus it has the great liberal lion, Teddy Kennedy, pushing it."

"Before it's all over, it'll be called the Ted Kennedy Memorial Healthcare bill," Limbaugh said on his show.

I don't know if I have words for this. It leaves me sick to my stomache in a way I didn't know even Limbaugh could do.

Rush... did you just more or less imply you're hoping Teddy Kennedy dies soon? Because that's how it comes off.

Jesus.

A Reason for My Silence

My computer has started to have serious overheating problems. Until I can get a stopgap solution, my posting will be limited.

Republican love affair with Rush Limbaugh, part 279.

From DailyKos: Boss Limbaugh Strikes again
House Republican Minority Whip Eric Cantor tells the world that Limbaugh's ideas are “what I’m about” just five days after soundly rejecting Limbaugh on This Week with George Stephanopoulos.

Oh for Pete's freakin' sake. This is just getting sad now. Is there not a single conservative that has a pair of balls? Forget about our political disagreements, forget about all of that. I'm asking a serious question, are there no Republicans who actually own a pair of balls?

I mean other than Coulter.
