Samuel Wurzelbacher, better known as Joe the Plumber, tells TIME he's so outraged by GOP overspending, he's quitting the party — and he's the bull's-eye of its target audience.

And all I can think is "ABANDON SHIP!", as member by member the GOP implodes. I've been thinking it since the election occurred and shared it with people I know - and now I'm going to say it here. The GOP is going to split up into several parties before too long. I may end up being wrong, but for the moment, I'm going to put my money on that.

Right now the GOP is apparently not 'pure' enough for folks like Not-Joe, and too way out wacky rightwing for anyone who leans moderate. They're hemorrhaging their base from both sides, not a good position for them to be in.

I'd like to retract something I wrote about Samuel "Joe The Plumber" Wurzelbacher last October.

Me : "...I'm sure he's a swell guy."

I was wrong. He's a fucking bigot.

Q: In the last month, same-sex marriage has become legal in Iowa and Vermont. What do you think about same-sex marriage at a state level?

JTP: At a state level, it's up to them. I don't want it to be a federal thing. I personally still think it's wrong. People don't understand the dictionary--it's called queer. Queer means strange and unusual. It's not like a slur, like you would call a white person a honky or something like that. You know, God is pretty explicit in what we're supposed to do--what man and woman are for. Now, at the same time, we're supposed to love everybody and accept people, and preach against the sins. I've had some friends that are actually homosexual. And, I mean, they know where I stand, and they know that I wouldn't have them anywhere near my children.

Samuel, I hereby order you to shut up.
On behalf of America, shut up.
On behalf of those of us who realized your fifteen minutes were up the moment you lied about who you were to ask a lying, loaded question to our current President, shut up.
On behalf of those of us who don't care about Fox Noise's worship of you for being a good little liar, shut up.
On behalf of those who have watched you gain your undeserved fame for your mendacity and willingness to say what the other bigots want you to say, shut up.
But most of all, on behalf of those of us who tire of the hate, the bigotry, and the endless repetition of hateful, harmful lies, shut up.
