An influential conservative political action committee is pledging to support primary challengers to any Republican senator who supports President Obama's stimulus package — the latest public show of dissatisfaction from the right over the massive measure before Congress.
"The American people don’t want this trillion dollar political payoff that will just line the pockets of non-governmental organizations who supported [President] Obama in the election,” said Scott Wheeler, the executive director of The National Republican Trust PAC, an organization that calls for less government spending and lower taxes.

Even though I don’t see any particular reason why people ought to be discriminated against in employment for being homosexual, I see no reason to add it to federal job discrimination laws — since I don’t like the idea of such laws in the first place. Nor do I think we ought to have hate crimes laws: we should punish people for the crimes they commit, not the motivations behind those crimes. Senator Craig’s positions are perfectly reasonable, even if he is on the “down low.” But our friends on the left all assume, since they dislike those positions, that Mr Craig must be a major hypocrite.
That's right, Dana's trying to deny Mr. Craig's hypocritical gay-bashing by saying that it must be because he just thinks it's bad policy to give equal rights to gay people. Inbetween calling everyone who doesn't agree with him "scumbag", Dana has to try and stick up for the gay-bashing homo (to take a phrase from Mr. Garrison) because he might have to admit that maybe, just maybe, Craig is a fucking hypocrite for voting for bigoted anti-gay laws while bering a closet case himself.

Murray: A rumor was started by the United Mine Workers. It’s false statements they have made. False statements from the beginning. But I’ve watched them for 50 years and they have preyed on the tragedy of miners and their families to put out false information to organize their union.
Murray always has the time to bash the United Mine Workers as much as he can and then he praises CNN for the wonderful job they are doing.

I saw this at work and I nearly punched the TV. That slave-driving scumbag kept acting like he was about to cry over the people he's essentially murdered. Worse yet, he made it a point to smear the UMW like a good little shill, proving once again the hostility of business owners towards any opportunity for workers to gain leverage.
But the most stunning part of all is that it isn't some nasty rumor started by those awful non-rich working-class people that's hounding him... it's the truth.
Robert Murray insists that his company did not change the mining plan at Crandall Canyon after purchasing a joint interest in the mine last August. But documents obtained by The Salt Lake Tribune clearly contradict Murray's assertion, and show that Murray's company sought and received approval from federal regulators to make a significant, and, experts say, risky change to the mining strategy. Records of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) show that, after Murray acquired a 50 percent ownership in the mine on Aug. 9, 2006, his company repeatedly petitioned the agency to allow coal to be extracted from the north and south barriers - thick walls of coal that run on both sides of the main tunnels and help hold up the mine.
The Conservative News Network, of course, wouldn't dare ask a real question of someone like Murray. After all, he's a business owner, and thus his decisions are perfect, no matter who's hurt, no matter who dies, no matter how much suffering is caused.
The sentence seems awfully harsh for obstructing an investigation into the leak of a CIA agent's name when it was known from the outset that no crime had occurred and who the leakers were.
And right away, the Republic Party memes start. Yes, it WAS a crime, because, as has been covered about fifteen thousand times, Valerie Wilson was STILL COVERT when she was outed by Bob "I'm Just Doing My Job Putting Us In Danger" Novak. Furthermore, when Libby started lying to Fitzgerald, that's a crime. Impeding an investigation is a crime, for those who didn't know.
The judge indicated he was not disposed to let Libby stay free pending appeal — he said he found the evidence "overwhelming" — meaning Libby, 56, who has two school-age children and an otherwise impeccable reputation, would be heading off to jail around Aug. 1.
So this supposedly "impeccable reputation" isn't broken by the fact that he LIED to a federal investigator and was implicit in the traitorous outing of a CIA agent? Wow. Apparently Scooter Libby is made of the same Teflon as Reagan was.
Much about special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald's investigation is still not public, including why Libby felt compelled to lie. Was it to protect his boss, as administration critics suspect, or simply an overzealous defense of the White House rationale for going to war, as his defenders insist?
So an ongoing investigation should be made completely public just because a few wingnuts are scared that it might not be going all their way? Yeah... no, not happening. And aren't these the same people who screamed about how federal investigations should remain completely secret?
Immediately after the verdict, Libby partisans began clamoring for a presidential pardon. But Bush, while sympathetic, has been noncommittal, saying only that there is a "process" that must go forward. That has provoked venomous attacks on Bush from his erstwhile allies on the right, "cowardice" and "incompetence" being two of the kinder insults directed at the president.
And nobody knows cowardice and incompetence better than far-right justice-haters. After all, they were teh ones who voted for Dubya, they're the ones who vote for shameless liars, cheats, and thieves like Tom DeLay, and they're the ones who listen to chickenhawk losers like Flush Limpballs and Jesus-Boy Hannity. Vice President Dick Cheney repeated his assertions of al-Qaida links to Saddam Hussein’s Iraq on Thursday as the Defense Department released a report citing more evidence that the prewar government did not cooperate with the terrorist group.
Cheney contended that al-Qaida was operating in Iraq before the March 2003 invasion led by U.S. forces and that terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was leading the Iraqi branch of al-Qaida. Others in al-Qaida planned the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
“He took up residence there before we ever launched into Iraq, organized the al-Qaida operations inside Iraq before we even arrived on the scene and then, of course, led the charge for Iraq until we killed him last June,” Cheney told radio host Rush Limbaugh during an interview. “As I say, they were present before we invaded Iraq.”
You know, he must be desperate to sell this war to the 30% if he's going to go against the facts that blatantly. U.S. Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., traveling Sunday in Iraq's capital with three other GOP members of Congress, compared a shopping area there to a "normal outdoor market in Indiana in the summertime."

First, you gotta be amazed at the kind of denialism these people cling to. "It's safer! It's just like back home!" This dementia persists despite stories like these coming out of Iraq every damn day. (Of course, that's only because the "liberal media" "only reports the bad news".) Second you also gotta marvel at the condescension in that statement: "freedom might just work for these people". "These people", like they're barely even human, like they're some concept rather than human beings. And this man is supposed to represent us?
