Congressman Mike Pence is obsessed with the latest boogieman concocted in the bowels of the conservative movement, the reinstatement of "The Fairness Doctrine." Thursday, Pence's blog linked to an article by Jack Thompson, warning of the doctrine's reinforcement.

Well, besides the inherent hypocricy of a known advocate of censorship whining about how the Fairness Doctrine would supposedly limit free speech (by the way, genius, there's an inherent flaw in your logic there, but I'll save that for next post), which Craig points out anyway, I have to wonder: Is it wise to get your opinions from a guy who, among other things, threatens people with legal action if they e-mail him and have any disagreement with his opinions, threatens people who donate to charity when he welches on an offer, walks out on his own disbarment proceedings in clear contempt of the court, submits gay porn as evidence that there's a conspiracy against him and thus makes it possible for anyone to see it while simultaneously claiming that the people he was submitting it with regards to are the ones making it available, and has a laundry list of other misuses and abuses of the legal system on his record? Is that really smart, Rep. Pence, to associate yourself with that level of reprehensible filth?

Oh, wait, you're a GOPper trying to keep other people's opinions out of the public square. It's natural for you.

Jack Thompson Disbarred; World Slightly Less Crazy

Is it finally game over for Florida lawyer and violent video game opponent Jack Thompson? Judgment has been entered in the case that started last year and came to a head when Judge Dava Tunis recommended permanent disbarment for the bombastic, showboating law man. The court has approved the report and has ordered that JT is officially disbarred as of 30 days from today.

The Court approves the corrected referee's report and John Bruce Thompson is permanently disbarred, effective thirty days from the date of this order so that respondent can close out his practice and protect the interests of existing clients. If respondent notifies the Court in writing that he is no longer practicing and does not need the thirty days to protect existing clients, this Court will enter an order making the permanent disbarment effective immediately. Respondent shall accept no new business from the date this order is filed.

Note that Thompson still has a chance for a retrial, only due to court sanctions the motion must me submitted by a member of the Florida Bar in good standing, and I don't know that anyone wants to touch this one. It's also worth noting that along with disbarment, Thompson has been ordered to reimburse the Florida Bar fees amounting to $43,675.35. Ouch.

Well, Jack, I guess that's what you get when you harass, threaten, and slander people for a living.

Naturally, Thompson is swearing revenge, in his usual insane, unrealistic, vaguely-threatening way, not realizing that nobody's going to listen to him since he's shown himself to be nuttier than a squirrel's lunch. And, just to rub it in, people are celebrating.

I think it's best summed up by a video I found on YouTube while looking for information on this. As the song says, "Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, hey hey hey, goodbye!"

Embattled anti-game attorney Jack Thompson, already awaiting a referee’s decision regarding his possible disbarment, got an additional spanking from the Florida Supreme Court on Tuesday.

A docket entry posted by the Court, and forwarded to GamePolitics by Thompson himself, reveals that the controversial attorney has been hit with a show cause order for allegedly “abusing the legal system:”

02/19/2008 ORDER-SHOW CAUSE TO: JOHN BRUCE THOMPSON It appears to the Court that you have abused the legal system by submitting numerous frivolous and inappropriate filings in this Court.

Therefore, it is ordered that you shall show cause on or before March 5, 2008, why this Court should not find that you have abused the legal system process and impose upon you a sanction for abusing the legal system, including, but not limited to directing the Clerk of this Court to reject for filing any future pleadings, petitions, motions, letters, documents, or other filings submitted to this Court by you unless signed by a member of The Florida Bar other than yourself.

You really should go read the whole story. That crazy fucker still seems to think he's got the upper hand, threatening and blustering against the Florida Bar Association like he's God fucking Incarnate.

If there's any justice in the world, Jack'll be disbarred within a couple months.

It's Virginia Tech all over again! Florida attorney Jack Thompson has appeared on Fox News this morning as a "School Shooting Expert", blaming 27-year-old sociology grad Steven Kazmierczak's rampage yesterday at Northern Illinois University on - you guessed it - video games like Counter-Strike. Kazmierczak, identified only this morning, walked onto a lecture hall stage dressed in black and opened fire on a crowded science class, killing six students before taking his own life. As always, no evidence has been found linking Kazmierczak to video games, Counter-Strike or otherwise, but Thompson never let a lack of evidence keep him from shooting off his mouth. I imagine his ears perk up like a dog hearing its master's voice the moment a terrible tragedy like this occurs. We're currently looking into Kazmierczak to see if there is any sort of video game connection. We'll keep you posted.

That didn't take long. The psychotic, hateful, bigoted purveyor and predator of human misery, Jack Thompson, has already started to lie. Without a shred of proof, he opens his endless hole of lies and pulls out yet another one.

I do dearly hope he gets his ass sued for slander. This bullshit needs to stop, and it's only going to when he is locked away for life in a mental intstitution where horrible human beings like him belong.

The fact that this happened is depressing enough. But that's not what has me truly mired today. No, what's really eating at me is the vultures. I know they're circling, waiting to descend.

How long before the gun nuts start declaring that forcing everyone to carry guns would have prevented this?
How long before anti-gun nuts start declaring that these things would never, ever happen if guns were outlawed?
How long before some "Christian leader" declares this proof that "God has turned his back on us" and we need to force everyone to be like them?
How long before psychopathic bigot Jack Thompson claims that the gunman "trained on 'murder simulators'"?
How long before Fred Phelps and his hateful little cult come to picket funerals because he thinks this is "God's punishment for accepting 'fags'"?

That’s not really clear. But the linkage - at least in Thompson’s mind - seems to be that the Blank Rome law firm represents video game industry defendants in Strickland vs. Sony, an Alabama lawsuit alleging that an 18-year-old was acting under the influence of Grand Theft Auto when he killed two police officers and a police dispatcher in 2004. And Blank Rome - or at least some of its partners - are also lobbyists as well as heavyweight Republican donors.

It's like some sort of party for all the people I can't stand! Crazed "attorney" Jack Thompson, Dubya and Brother Jeb. If Jack manages to stall his case until Bush leaves office - which seems to be his goal - it's all the more reason to anticipate the end of the current administration. The sooner we can see the disbarment, and subsequent humiliation of Thompson - the sooner (hopefully) ANYone in the media will stop taking him seriously.

Sadly, I put Thompson on the same level as Fred Phelps: A crazy bastard who believes his own crazy thoughts and believes himself to be the sole arbiter of truth. If you examine their rantings, Phelps and Thompson are strikingly similar.

Instapukesack blames it on VA Tech banning guns on their campus, since, you know, guns fix EVERYTHING, and the right wing echo chamber starts repeating it.
Jack Thompson, the lying, cheating, game-hating, utterly fucking insane piece of amphibian shit, already blames it on video games, and Kotaku already has it debunked thoroughly.
"Dr." Phil, that lying pseudo-folk pop psychologist piece of shit patient molestor, is doing the same as Thompson.
And, true to form, Fred Phelps and his Klan are going to be staging some of their hate rallies at the funerals of those who were killed.
