Right-Wing Mailbag, "Hate Is the Only Thing We Have" Edition

Letters | The Journal Gazette, Fort Wayne, Ind.
Government awards billions to failing banks, blames them for the economy, then takes them over. Government demands change from private companies, and when they fail to live up to expectations, government takes over them, too. As a result, hundreds of thousands are losing their jobs.

The killing of the unborn is redefined as decent, and those who would protect the innocents are labeled as radicals.

Former officials who acted to protect the country are now being hunted down and prosecuted as war criminals while those that sought to destroy the country are awarded rights, safety and civility.

Government authorizes the spending of trillions of dollars that does little to stimulate the economy while the citizenry is told to give back and cut back.

In my company, employees who perform like this would be fired. Our company could not survive with such behavior and results. But I’m not describing my company or yours.

Welcome to America! You get what you voted for.

JIM JOHNSON Fort Wayne
Mr. Johnson, I'm going to be blunt: Shut the fuck up. Shut your tantrum-throwing whine-hole and sit down. Your desperation is showing.

Your kind has, in the past months, ramped up the violent, hateful rhetoric they spew, and you dare not denounce it for fear that you might not have time to denounce people like me. You show yourself to be an ally to the criminals of the past administration, an ally to the ignorant masses who don't undersdtand the economy, and an ally to the destruction of this country by your own kind.

But most of all, I'd like to remind you that your kind took away a brave man, a man working to protect women from the creeping control your kind wish to impose, only a couple days ago, by driving someone to murder through the endless dehumanization of your "enemies" and the eliminationist garbage you and your ilk spew. Then you throw a tantrum because your kind are rightly seen as "radicals". The truth hurts. You are a criminal, no better than the common rabble you claim people like me to be.

You will shut up, Mr. Johnson, because you have no more right to speak. You have given that up by declaring yourself the enemy of this country, and the enemy of humanity. You will shut up, and you will do it now.

You have to be fucking kidding.

... I pride myself on my ability to remain calm in the face of right wing insanity, but this? This manages to send me into a blind rage each and every time.

Things like this? Are only supposed to be exaggerations in movies, or Onion articles. You know? Satire.

But there it is. Large as life, and twice as real. At least Canada forced them to apologize. Even if it was just a shitty FauxNoise non-apology apology.

Irony, Thy Name is Limbaugh

From Media Matters: Limbaugh Wire: 3/18/2009 Part II
LIMBAUGH: In the meantime, the new McCarthyism in Washington, D.C., this morning during a House Financial Services panel hearing. This is the Chairman Barney Frank.

FRANK [audio clip]: We will also be asking Mr. Liddy to give us the names of the recipients. They have sent us some information under the confidentiality rules. I've spoken to Chairman Kanjorski about this. If Mr. Liddy declines to give us the names, then I will convene the committee to vote a subpoena for the names. So we do intend to use our power to get the names of the people here.

LIMBAUGH: Contractually obligated bonuses -- Barney Frank and the new McCarthyism. He will go the route of a subpoena to get the names of the recipients if the government-installed CEO Ed Liddy does not provide the names. The next question that will be asked once these names have been produced -- and they will be -- then these people will be called up to testify before Chairman Frank's committee.
Uh, Limpdick? Subpoenaing people who are directly flouting basic morals and senses of human decency by saying they don't have to give back money that was not supposed to be theirs has nothing do to with McCarthy's "communist"-routing witchhunts. This isn't a case of "you'll admit you're a traitor and give me names, and by the way you're obviously a commie so your life is now ruined", this is "give the fucking money back NOW and stop covering for your rich-boy buddies who think they're above the law".

Then again, I don't expect him to understand it - to reich-wingers like Rushbo, McCarthy was a demigod, a man of impeccable character whose life-destroying accusations were just and correct, especially since we wanted to not be like Them Godless Reds. I don't think he'sconfused about this, though; I simply believe he's high on the Oxycontin again.

Remember, you can hear Limpballs' garbage on AM 1190 WOWO, Ft. Wayne's home for deranged revisionist horseshit.

Please, PLEASE, Tell Me This Letter Is a Joke, PLEASE

From The Journal Gazette: Web-only letter: Impeach Obama and others because of poor economy
It is time to ask Congress to request that President Obama, Vice President Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Leader Harry Reid to resign. If they don’t, then it is time for impeachment of all four.

President Obama campaigned on change, and we sure are getting it. He signs the stimulus package without even giving anyone in Congress time to read what was in it. He made the statement that there was no “pork” in it. Frankly, 90 percent of it is pork.

On Oct. 10, 2007, the Dow Jones hit a high, closed at 14,164.53. Who was president then? On Nov. 20, 2008, the Dow was 7,552.53. Who was elected president just before that?

And they say it isn’t done yet. Who was the president who just signed the stimulus package?

This is a sure sign that we have elected a president who was this country’s biggest mistake over the last 100 years. Every time Obama speaks out or promotes something, the markets take another big drop.

I heard an economist make the statement that the next election, the Democrats will lose 40 seats in the House and possibly many more.

Why did people elect our present president? This is a question I heard quite often. He made many promises to the poor just to buy votes. When more than 90 percent of the black population voted for him along with the welfare people, whom he promised all kinds of help, what would you expect?

I hope those of you who helped put him in office will soon see just what you have done. President Bush had a lot of problems with the help of the Democratic House the last two year, but we now have more problems and debts that we will never got out of. President Obama has done more damage in 30 days than Bush did in eight years.

It is time to contact your senators and representatives in Washington, asking for their resignations. The final nails are going into the U.S. coffin, and we will soon be buried.

DALE BIBERSTEIN Bluffton
For the love of all that is good and holy, please, please, PLEASE let this letter be some kind of bad joke. The idea that someone can be this abnormally, irredeemably stupid and still be able to breathe without being re-taught every two seconds is unbelievable.

And it's really galling considering they just published a letter warning against this kind of irreconcilable stupidity.

3/12/2009

It's the same old story...

...the same old song and dance, my friends.

First it was Fleischer saying that "Obama should be thankful that he inherited a world without Saddam Hussein" claiming that Saddam Hussein was behind 9-11 (but he DID inherit a world with AL QUAEDA and BIN LADEN and the people who were ACTUALLY RESPONSIBLE for 9-11...)and then backpedaling and claiming that that's "not what he meant" when called on his LIE.

Then it was Frank Gaffney, who spouted off a load of stale, steaming bullshit about how Saddam was behind every terrorist attack in the US from the first WTC bombing, to the OKLAHOMA CITY BOMBING (gee, I distinctly remember that guy being a FAR-RIGHT RACIST WHACKJOB AMERICAN...) to 9-11, along with crackpot conspiracy theories about how Saddam was prepared to attack the US with chemical weapons via... get this... PERFUME BOTTLES.

....are you people SERIOUS?

Seriously? SERIOUSLY?

Blue Fielder Talks Further Smack-Talk About Jindal

From Politico: Jindal aides clarify Katrina story
A spokeswoman for Bobby Jindal says the Louisiana governor didn't imply that an anecdote about battling bureaucrats during Katrina directly involved the governor or took place during the heat of a fight to release rescue boats.

Really now? So what part of this lie-fest doesn't imply the timing or Jindal's involvement?
During Katrina, I visited Sheriff Harry Lee, a Democrat and a good friend of mine. When I walked into his makeshift office I'd never seen him so angry. He was yelling into the phone: 'Well, I'm the Sheriff and if you don't like it you can come and arrest me!' I asked him: 'Sheriff, what's got you so mad?' He told me that he had put out a call for volunteers to come with their boats to rescue people who were trapped on their rooftops by the floodwaters. The boats were all lined up ready to go - when some bureaucrat showed up and told them they couldn't go out on the water unless they had proof of insurance and registration. I told him, 'Sheriff, that's ridiculous.' And before I knew it, he was yelling into the phone: 'Congressman Jindal is here, and he says you can come and arrest him too!' Harry just told the boaters to ignore the bureaucrats and start rescuing people.
So what part doesn't imply that Jindal was involved, or that it was at that moment? The "ready to go" part? The "Congressman Jindal is here" part? Yeah, he's a liar, and so are you. You two are perfect for each other.

Anyhow, I'm not the first to notice this, but Jindal's a guy who spins folksy-sounding outright lies to support his "all government but mine is bad and evil" idiocy. He grins, and he beams, and he acts like all he has to do is make it sound good and people will eat out of his hand.

Hey, GOP, you've been looking for the next Reagan? Well, there he is!

And... who listens to you, again?

In which Whine- er, RIGHT-Wing Hate Radio Talking Head Michelle Malkin Strikes Again!

Apparently, someone's in a tizzy over *LE GASP* the temperature of President Obama's office! He supposedly has it set to a sweltering 77 degrees, which seems to be the temperature at which racist, far-right wingnuts catch fire and explode into flaming clouds of self-righteous demagoguery.

It’s hard to crusade for “green” this and “green” that with the thermostat at 77 degrees, don’t you think. I predict Mrs. Obama will be shopping ASAP for some Jimmy Carter-style cardigans to rectify Obama’s eco-hypocrisy.

(Bold emphasis mine, of course.)

Anyway, to address the point...

No, Ms. Malkin, it really isn't hard to "crusade for 'green' this and 'green' that" in this situation. There's a reason for this, but you being who you are... I'm really not surprised at all that you're so ill-informed.

You see, the White House was "Greened" all the way back during the Clinton Administration (shocking, I know.) Instead of electric or gas heat, the building is heated with hot water coils, a more efficient process known as "steam heating." The White House is also zoned - which means that any given room can have its temperature raised or lowered depending on the tastes of the occupant(s,) without adversely effecting the overall efficiency of the system. One might wish that every home in the United States were so equipped. Imagine the savings!

It was also Bush Administration policy, in a move to make things still more efficient, to have the internal temperature of the WH set at a consistent 74-78 degrees, dependent upon the external temperature and humidity.

So, ultimately, if President Obama wants his office to be 72 degrees, or 75 degrees, or 77, 80, or 100 degrees... he can. It won't effect the "greenness" of the White House one bit, and it sure as hell doesn't make him a "hypocrite."

Not that that will stop sore losers, racists, hatemongers, or any combination of the above from bitching and moaning when they really have absolutely nothing to complain about.

(Though now I am left wondering... What's the temperature of your office, Ms. Malkin?)

Ignorance Gets You Far in Life

From Pharyngula: For God's sake, have Bryan Appleyard's articles made any difference to our lives?
Hey, hack journalists, have I got a great concept for you! (...)

Here it is, and just the title alone will inspire you. "Has _X_ made any difference in our lives?" It's universal! It doesn't matter what the editor tells you to write about, just plug it in in place of the X, and you're ready to scamper through the story like a cockroach with its cerci on fire. (...)

No one has mastered the art form of turning abysmal ignorance into a stream of money-earning words on a newspaper page better than Bryan Appleyard, who writes for the London Times. I've stumbled across Appleyard's excretions a few times before, and I've learned what to expect. He fulfills those expectations beautifully in an impressively corrupt and reeking bit of mass-market offal, For God's sake, have Charles Darwin's theories made any difference to our lives?
Make no mistake, this guy's drooling mishmash of stupidity isn't hard to counter - he touches on pretty much every old creationist meme there is, from "I ain't no munky!" to "Evolution caused the Holocaust!" to "Irreducible complexity!". I swear, it reads like a strawman, but there it is, in black and white, as real as you can get without the guy being right there in front of you.

Naturally, since this is from the UK, where people aren't quite as proudly stupid as they are in America, and since this was linked to at Pharyngula, he's getting savaged for his utter lack of anything that could be considered a rational thought. I decided I'd throw my two cents in there, as inelegant as they may be:
Beyond your absolute ignorance of any level of scientific fact, one thing stands out: Without understanding of evolution, we would not understand the rather basic concept of bacterial resistance to antibiotics. Right there, your entire premise is blown to smithereens.

Second, you open up the old canard that evolution is responsible for hateful ideas. Evolution as a scientific concept is far less responsible for these ideas than out-and-out stupidity. Furthermore, if you're going to ascribe bad ideas to perfectly good concepts, perhaps you'd like to talk of witch-hunts, crusades, and pogroms, all inspired by religion?

You just want to feel special, like you're better than any other being. That is the basis of the "I Ain't No Monkey" meme of the denialist. I, meanwhile, see a level of beauty in being the distant relation of the noble primate. Personally, I think they are smarter than a good deal of humanity.

I don't expect you to acknowledge any of this, considering you think the Ignorance Museum is anything other than a pseudo-scientific laughingstock. All I can say is that I sincerely hope you realize that rejecting evolution as a concept is to reject much of modern science.
There were far better comments, and I doubt they'll even publish mine. I just think it needed to be said.

Fact-Checkers: They Aren't Hard to Find

Attention, Associated Press: If you're going to essentially accuse someone of being a complete and utter cockmonger, then you might want to get the story correct before you do so, you stupid fucks.
State Sen. Ernie Chambers is suing God. He said on Monday that it is to prove a point about frivolous lawsuits.

Chambers said senators periodically have offered bills prohibiting the filing of certain types of suits. He said his main objection is that the constitution requires that the doors to the courthouse be open to all.

"Thus anybody can file a lawsuit against anybody -- even God," Chambers said.

Chambers said he decided to file the lawsuit after a suit was filed in early September in federal court against Lancaster County Judge Jeffre Cheuvront. He's the judge who was hearing a sexual assault case in which the plaintiff wants to use the words rape and victim during her testimony.
Hat tip to Pandagon for the story, and commenter Kaethe for bring the facts to light before things got much worse.

"Get the Obama signs off your property—now,"

"Failure to obey this order will result in the immediate death of all family members."

Don't believe what you just read?

Believe it. People are getting DEATH THREATS for supporting Obama now.

Two supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama found handwritten death threats in their mailboxes Thursday and reported them to Villa Park police.

A 74-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man with Obama signs in their front yards near the 600 block of South Villa Avenue received similar letters that had a Villa Park Village Hall return address. "Get the Obama signs off your property—now," the letter reads. "Failure to obey this order will result in the immediate death of all family members." Both residents said they will not remove their signs, though the man, who had voted Republican for 25 years before switching parties this year, said his wife is worried about letting their 7-year-old son play alone outside.

Village President Joyce Stupegia said she has not heard about any other letters.

"I'm quite troubled," she said. "It's obviously a person who's a little nutsy getting carried away. But it's unacceptable."

So, McCain.... Are you still "proud" of your supporters? Are you going to come out and condemn this action as the despicable criminal behavior that it is? Are you going to stand up, take the HIGH ROAD for once, and say "This is NOT what the Republican party stands for, and I will not tolerate this sort of behavior from people who claim to support me"?

Of course not. Whatever it takes to either win the election, or burn the country down after losing, right?

Seriously, now. I wonder if the fucknut who wrote those letters would have been even half as bold if those signs had read "Gun Owners For Obama". And it's people LIKE that, that are making me seriously think about getting a big, fierce-looking German shepherd and a .35mm for personal safety - just BECAUSE people like that seem to be becoming more and more common, and more and more unhinged, thanks to McCain/Palin's stirring up of hatred and violence.

This is what the Republican party has sunk to, people - Not ALL, but ENOUGH - violence, vandalism, and death threats. And then they have the nerve to call themselves "freedom-loving", "Pro-America", and "Christian"....

Wherein Phage demolishes the 'birth certificate' non-issue.

Anyone else tired of the ridiculous claims going around about Senator Obama's birth certificate?

Let's destroy those.

To start: The claim his birth certificate is a forgery, or photoshopped.

This all started from the copy was provided, claims that there was no signature or raised seal. Well, since then we have new photos of the birth certificate.

http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.html

Let's see. Raised seal? Clearly visible (Gee, I wonder if it wasn't visible before because scanned images don't display DEPTH well?) and Signature, which is located on the back of the certificate (Gee, maybe why it didn't show on the front only scan originally provided)

Now. It provides everything necessary for a birth certificate to be legit, including the Hawaii Dept. of Health saying it is.

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2008/jun/27/obamas-birth-certificate-part-ii/

“It’s a valid Hawaii state birth certificate,” spokesman Janice Okubo told us.

"BUT WAIT!" You cry in your wingnuttery, "that may be a 'real' birth certificate, but it's short form! A short form birth certificate isn't acceptable!"

Ah, again, you are mistaken. A short form certificate ISN'T acceptable, that is true, UNLESS it has the names of both parents listed. Hawaiin versions, do in fact. In the case where both parent's names are listed:

The short form typically includes the child's name, date of birth, sex, and place of birth, although some also include the names of the child's parents. When the certification does include the names of the parents, it can be used in lieu of a long form birth certificate in almost all circumstances

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birth_certificate#Short_forms
Yes, that includes U.S. citizenship.

"...Well... Okay... BUT!" You again interrupt, most rude, "It's suspicious he won't provide a long-form copy!"

And there is a reason for that. Long-form Hawaiin birth certificates are, in fact, not public record. The Hawaii Dept. of Health only makes available the certified copy, or... short-form.

http://hawaii.gov/health/vital-records/vital-records/vital_records.html

Of course that's moot anyway, as his short-form is of the variety that is considered an acceptable form of Primary identification.

In short, what has been provided is all that he needed to provide. It proves his citizenship as well as yours, mine or Joe the Plumber's. You may not LIKE it, but it is the TRUTH.
