Pat Buchanan: "Boo Hoo, We White Men are So Oppressed"

From Media Matters for America: "Offended" Buchanan stands up for "white males," claiming only "white males" died at Gettysburg, Normandy
Asserting that he was "offended" by comments that Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean reportedly made during a speech at Georgetown University -- in which Dean reportedly said that the Democratic field "looks like America," while the Republican field, made up of white males, "looks like the 1950s and talks like the 1850s" -- Pat Buchanan said on the February 28 edition of Tucker: "Look, what did white males do? OK, they were the only guys signing the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, all the dead at Gettysburg, all the dead at Normandy." Buchanan then responded to radio host Bill Press by stating, "Why is it ... OK to mock ... backhand white -- no wonder you're losing white males," and also said, "I think you guys are self-hating white folks." His comments came after host Tucker Carlson asserted of Dean's remarks: "I must say, I'm not going to sit by a single more time and listen to someone slag on, quote, 'white men.' "
Gee, Pat, could the reason for that be the fact that we didn't let women or black men fight at Gettysburg or Normandy because we thought they were inferior, and the reason for why only white males "sign(ed) the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence" was because we though women and black men were property? Then again, Buchanan is a person who wants to go back to that time and whines that white men have it so, so terribly bad because it's not like that anymore. That he said this is not surprising, nor is it a shock to see comments from Tucker "I Got My Ass Handed To Me by a Fake Newscaster" Carlson being his echo chamber.

This is also why it's so distressing that guys like Buchanan and Racist Ron Paul are against the Iraq occupation. They use their stances on it to pull in gullible young people, then fill their heads with the other gobbledygook they preach, and the people they brainwash just accept it all without question. And these people consider themselves informed, independent thinkers.

The great thinkers of ages past would simply keel over and die faced with that kind of illogical bullshit.

McCain to Castro: "Die Soon, kaythnx."

"I hope he has the opportunity to meet Karl Marx very soon."

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Likely Republican presidential nominee John McCain says he doesn't look for any major political reforms in Cuba until after Fidel Castro dies, adding he hopes that's not far off.

I'm no fan of Castro, AT ALL. Let that be known, but isn't there a standard we should be expected to keep to? Especially for a man running for the presidency. We're supposed to be the good guys, right? Maybe I missed a memo somwhere.

Perhaps I just expect too much of people, that we should be able to act like adults, rather than schoolchildren.

Justice! Jack Thompson Slapped with Show Cause Order by Florida SC

From Game Politics: Florida Supreme Court Comes Down Hard on Jack Thompson
Embattled anti-game attorney Jack Thompson, already awaiting a referee’s decision regarding his possible disbarment, got an additional spanking from the Florida Supreme Court on Tuesday.

A docket entry posted by the Court, and forwarded to GamePolitics by Thompson himself, reveals that the controversial attorney has been hit with a show cause order for allegedly “abusing the legal system:”

02/19/2008 ORDER-SHOW CAUSE TO: JOHN BRUCE THOMPSON It appears to the Court that you have abused the legal system by submitting numerous frivolous and inappropriate filings in this Court.

Therefore, it is ordered that you shall show cause on or before March 5, 2008, why this Court should not find that you have abused the legal system process and impose upon you a sanction for abusing the legal system, including, but not limited to directing the Clerk of this Court to reject for filing any future pleadings, petitions, motions, letters, documents, or other filings submitted to this Court by you unless signed by a member of The Florida Bar other than yourself.
You really should go read the whole story. That crazy fucker still seems to think he's got the upper hand, threatening and blustering against the Florida Bar Association like he's God fucking Incarnate.

If there's any justice in the world, Jack'll be disbarred within a couple months.

Jack Thompson: "AWK AWK FRESH CARRION"

From Kotaku: Jack Thompson Blames NIU Shooting On Video Games
It's Virginia Tech all over again! Florida attorney Jack Thompson has appeared on Fox News this morning as a "School Shooting Expert", blaming 27-year-old sociology grad Steven Kazmierczak's rampage yesterday at Northern Illinois University on - you guessed it - video games like Counter-Strike. Kazmierczak, identified only this morning, walked onto a lecture hall stage dressed in black and opened fire on a crowded science class, killing six students before taking his own life. As always, no evidence has been found linking Kazmierczak to video games, Counter-Strike or otherwise, but Thompson never let a lack of evidence keep him from shooting off his mouth. I imagine his ears perk up like a dog hearing its master's voice the moment a terrible tragedy like this occurs. We're currently looking into Kazmierczak to see if there is any sort of video game connection. We'll keep you posted.
That didn't take long. The psychotic, hateful, bigoted purveyor and predator of human misery, Jack Thompson, has already started to lie. Without a shred of proof, he opens his endless hole of lies and pulls out yet another one.

I do dearly hope he gets his ass sued for slander. This bullshit needs to stop, and it's only going to when he is locked away for life in a mental intstitution where horrible human beings like him belong.

Fuck you, you reprehensible pile of hate.

House Votes to Hold Miers and Bolten in Contempt; House Repubs Throw Tantrum and Walk Out

From The Gavel: House Approves Contempt Resolutions for Miers and Bolten
Today, the House has just approved H.Res. 982 by a vote of 223-32-1, which provides for the adoption of H.Res. 979, recommending that the House of Representatives find Harriet Miers, former White House Counsel, and Joshua Bolten, the White House Chief of Staff, in contempt of Congress for refusal to comply with subpoenas issued by the Judiciary Committee. These subpoenas were issued as part of the Committee’s investigation into the firings of a number of United States Attorneys and matters concerning the politicization of the Justice Department. This resolution also provides for adoption of H.Res. 980 - Authorizing the Committee on the Judiciary to initiate or intervene in judicial proceedings to enforce certain subpoenas.
But remember, according to the paranoid-lite crowd, Congress doesn't so anything and everyone's OMGZ TEH TRAYTUR because they're not stupid enough to waste time on impeachment votes that will never come to fruition.

And how did the House Republicans react to this? Why, with a good old-fashioned tantrum.
White House spokeswoman Dana Perino called the move "a partisan, futile act" that would not be enforced by the Justice Department.
In other words, Dumbass Dana is saying that the Justice Department doesn't enforce the law, just the will of its masters. Or, to put it bluntly, it's not about justice, it's about abuse.

And the chamber's Republican minority staged a walkout before the vote, demanding that Democratic leaders vote instead on a revision of federal surveillance laws.

"We will not stand here and watch this floor be abused for pure political grandstanding at the expense of our national security," Minority Leader John Boehner said to jeers from Democrats.
Aww, are the whiny-ass titty babies gonna cry 'cuz they aren't forcing the bill to make illegal activities legal for their Father Figure? Well, keep crying, you whiny little bastards, because it's not gonna get any better.

Saudi Arabia: Remember, They're Our Friends and Are Perfect

From HuffPo: Saudis to Execute a Woman for Witchcraft
BEIRUT, Lebanon — A leading human rights group appealed to Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah on Thursday to stop the execution of a woman accused of witchcraft and performing supernatural acts.

The New York-based Human Rights Watch said in a statement that the kingdom's religious police who arrested and interrogated Fawza Falih, and the judges who tried her in the northern town of Quraiyat never gave her the opportunity to prove her innocence in the face of "absurd charges that have no basis in law."
(...)
Witchcraft is considered an offense against Islam in the conservative kingdom.

In Falih's case, the judges relied on a coerced confession and on the statements of witnesses who said she had "bewitched" them to convict her in April 2006, according to the group.

Falih later retracted her confession in court, claiming it was extracted under duress, and said that as an illiterate woman, she did not understand the document she was forced to fingerprint.
(...)
The Saudi court cited an instance in which a man allegedly became impotent after being bewitched by Falih, the rights group said.

An appeals court ruled in September 2006 that Falih could not be sentenced to death for witchcraft because she had retracted her confession. But a lower court subsequently reissued the death sentence for the benefit of "public interest" and to "protect the creed, souls and property of this country," the group's statement said.
So let me get thsi straight: we need to be deathly afraid of Muslims and we need to kill lots and lots of them in Iraq and feminists just have to support the killing because of the human rights abuses often centered on the mistreatment of women under their religiously-based laws, but we don't need to go after the country doing things like this and we need religiously-based law here. At least, that's what Dubya and the right-wing brigades of this country tell me.

And why aren't we going after Saudi Arabia, the country that was home to 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers, the country that continues these kinds of acts to this day without so much as a peep from those who are scared to fucking death of OMG SHARIA LAW IN AMERICA IF WE DON'T KILL THOSE BROWN PEOPLES?

This:
Bush <3s Saudis

The continuing circling of the vultures.

5 shot dead, including gunman, at Northern Illinois University

The fact that this happened is depressing enough. But that's not what has me truly mired today. No, what's really eating at me is the vultures. I know they're circling, waiting to descend.

How long before the gun nuts start declaring that forcing everyone to carry guns would have prevented this?
How long before anti-gun nuts start declaring that these things would never, ever happen if guns were outlawed?
How long before some "Christian leader" declares this proof that "God has turned his back on us" and we need to force everyone to be like them?
How long before psychopathic bigot Jack Thompson claims that the gunman "trained on 'murder simulators'"?
How long before Fred Phelps and his hateful little cult come to picket funerals because he thinks this is "God's punishment for accepting 'fags'"?

How long before these shooters realize that they ought to be shooting the vultures rather than innocent people?

Invoking ‘Nazis’ admits defeat

Regarding John Strathmore’s letter, “Ban reminds one of Nazis” (Feb. 1): Is this how devoid of argument the smoke-lovers are that they have to resort to the ultimate ad hominem attack of calling those they don’t agree with “Nazis”?

In the world of online discussion, there is a phenomenon known as “Godwin’s Law,” which states that as a discussion continues, the probability of someone comparing his or her opponent to Hitler or the Nazi Party rises to the point of inevitability. As a corollary to Godwin’s Law, there is a long-standing rule that any person making this comparison has, in essence, admitted defeat, as it proves he or she is out of logical arguments.

That Strathmore would compare those of us who want to breathe clean, smoke-free air to a fascist regime that murdered millions because of the delusions of one wholly insane man proves that he is either incapable of arguing in good faith or that he has so little regard for those who suffered through the actual Third Reich or lost family members to the Holocaust that he should rightfully come off as heartless.

It just never stops: More daddy-state insanity

Gee, and just when I thought my rage would subside, Pandagon comes along to remind me of why I'm so very fucking pissed.

This is your police state - woman violently strip searched

The police state continues: quadriplegic dumped from wheelchair

And one brought to me through Pandagon's commenters, without a story: A power-tripping cops assults and batters a 14-year-old for skateboarding, then threatens him repeatedly.

I just wonder why we we even bother with the pretense of rights these days. We're already so mired into a Father-Knows-Best state that things like this are happening all the time.

This shit isn't fucking America. This is Stalin-era Russia. This is Nazi Germany. This is fucking madness.

This is why, sometimes, it ought to be acceptable to take the law into your own hands, when the law fails to do its job.

There were 18 in bed and the telecoms said, "Roll over, roll over."

TPM Muckraker's lowdown on who rolled over for the telecom companies.
The Senate voted on the Dodd/Feingold amendment, which would have stripped retroactive immunity from the surveillance bill just now. The final tally was 31-67; crossing over to vote nay were Sens. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), Evan Bayh (D-IA), Daniel Inouye (D-HI), Tim Johnson (D-SD), Herb Kohl (D-WI), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Mark Pryor (D-AR), Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Ken Salazar (D-CO), Tom Carper (D-DE), Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), Jim Webb (D-VA), Ben Nelson (D-NE), Bill Nelson (D-FL), Kent Conrad (D-ND), and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI).

Anonymous vs. Scientology

Have you seen this? This is just one story out of many from yesterday, when masked groups of protestors picketed Scientology centers all over the world.

Global protest? There's something you don't see happening often, at least not on any real scale. And the fact that it stayed peaceful proves that maybe all these "I'm going to throw rocks at police and martyr myself" protestors are doing something wrong.

The Cult of Paul

The Podium: One Libertarian's View

Perhaps it's my Libertarian leanings that forces me to continuously speak in regards Presidential Candidate Ron Paul. I'm not sure, perhaps it is because I am a denizen of the internet, and as pretty much ALL of his support comes from people who spend a great deal of time online, I see it thrown in my face more than any other candidate. I'm not really certain. However, I've come to an interesting conclusion I'd like to share with you, dear readers.

Paul's followers are cultists. Now I don't mean that in the humorous, "Oh you!" way, I mean, quite literally, Ron Paul supporters are in a cult. After this rather terrifying thought came to enter my mind a few weeks ago, I made it a point to begin watching various Paul supporter hot spots online. What I've seen is mind-numbing. Individuals who go beyond avid support of a candidate, far beyond.

These are individuals who have built a boogeyman from the media to explain why "Dr. Paul" is doing so poorly, that the evil media conspiracy is actively trying to keep Ron Paul from being president, that they're lying about his numbers about his support, that they don't give him equal coverage to other candidates because of this, instead of the fact that he simply isn't pulling numbers to be viewed as a contender.

The media isn't interested in covering a long-shot who is considered by most on both sides of the political spectrum to be a nutjob. Let alone one who's base seems to consist of internet junkies and conspiracy theorists.

The lengths that these individuals are willing to go for the candidate is insane. Talk in some cases of open, violent revolution if he doesn't get the nomination and then the presidency. An insatiable need to put their 'savior' in the faces of everyone, because surely they want to come to know 'the truth' as well. The fact that they honestly believe themselves to be more enlightened than the rest of us monkies, because they follow Paul. I've seen them talk about how they're 'awake' now, and that it's good to be getting Paul out there, so others can 'wake up' as well.

All in all they have the markings of a cult.

A savior who is put on a pedestal, who can do no wrong - in the case of the newsletters the amount of jumping done to try to explain away the facts was overwhelming - finally in some cases actively working to delude themselves, saying they must have faith, and so forth.

The attacks upon non-believers. I've been labeled by these people a traitor, un-american, and various other insults because I have no desire to support Ron Paul. I don't agree with his platform, I don't think it's good for America, and I think his brand of crazy needs medication. Threats are common with this group, talk of physical violence.

Forceful 'conversion' if all else fails. Talks of revolution against the United States to force their will if Paul fails. (Mind you they refuse to accept that, still again, deluding themselves that they will win in a brokered Republican convention).

Their devotion to Ron Paul is nothing short of religious, and fundamental at worst. The sooner the Republican nomination is awarded, and Paul's army of trolls find their way back under the bridge, the better.

Romney Drops Like a Fly

Romney suspends presidential campaign
Mitt Romney suspended his bid for the Republican presidential nomination Thursday, saying if he continued it would "forestall the launch of a national campaign and be making it easier for Sen. Clinton or Obama to win."

"In this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror. This is not an easy decision. I hate to lose," the former Massachusetts governor said.
Yeah, but you certainly don't hate the fact that you can make cheap, slanderous shots at your would-be opponents, you miserable shit.

But remember, conservatives have more class.

"If this were only about me, I'd go on. But it's never been only about me. I entered this race because I love America, and because I love America, in this time of war I feel I have to now stand aside for our party and for our country."
You know, he's sort of right here - not having him in the race is good for the country - since it means he won't be fucking the entire country up. Happy trails, Mitt - try not to come back.

Well, this pretty much leaves John McCain as the GOP candidate, barring a suddenly strong showing from God-Boy Huckabee. And no, Racist Ron Paul doesn't count, since he wouldn't even have any chance as the only candidate.

Ban reminds one of Nazis

The Journal Gazette published several articles regarding smoking the week of Jan. 13. This concentrated blitz is surely an effort to influence the City Council as it prepares to consider modifying that oppressive piece of legislation commonly known as the smoking ban.

People who go to bars and clubs go there to smoke, relax and have a few beers and socialize with like-minded friends.

Now, the smoke Nazis are encouraging people to inform on their fellow citizens. They have even come up with a special 311 number to make the process easier, and they have enlisted the pledge of the police department and fire department to enforce their edict.

I resent that my tax money is being used to police the city for people who want to have a cigarette when that tax money could be used for better purposes.

This whole debacle reeks of the same tactics that got the Third Reich started, i.e.: unreasonable laws, people informing on each other, businesses going broke, people out of jobs and so forth. For those too young to remember, maybe the words “Adolf Hitler” and “Nazi Germany” will have meaning.

JOHN STRATHMORE Fort Wayne
I don't even have to waste my time pointing out how utterly stupid this man is. The fact that he Godwined himself does it for me.

That's how intellectually devoid these smoke-for-brains assholes are - they're out of arguments, so it's time to start calling people Nazis!

Coulter: "Hillary Before McCain" (NO, SERIOUSLY!)

Ann Coulter: McCain nomination would make me a 'Hillary girl'
It seems as though the latest game among some conservative pundits is to play "can you top this" in seeing how far they can go to proclaim their distaste for Senator John McCain.

Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh drew media attention to himself last week when he suggested he might not support McCain if he became the Republican nominee. Now Ann Coulter has upped the ante, telling Fox News host Sean Hannity that if John McCain is the Republican nominee, she's supporting Hillary Clinton.

"If he's our candidate, then Hillary's going to be our girl," Coulter asserted. "Because she's more conservative than he is. I think she would be stronger on the war on terrorism. ... I absolutely believe that. ... I will campaign for her if it's McCain."
You bet I was flabbergasted when I heard this. It's a strange sort of day when you've got Ann Coulter saying she'd support a Clinton before a particular Republican.

Of course, when my initial shock wore off, I figured it out pretty quickly - it's backlash, though I'm not sure in which way. There are two schools of thought on this: She's willing to support Hillary because the far right's favored candidate, Rudy Giuliani, has dropped out and thus will have no chance to enact the destructive policies he forced on NYC on the nation; She's doing it solely to try and sabotage Hillary.

I'm leaning towards the latter, mostly because I know beyond all doubt that the rabid Hillary-haters and the raving Paul Cultists would jump on this as a reason to hate her all the more, screaming that it proves she's not liberal and whatnot.
